Russia leads Latvia 14-12 after one quarter in the tournament opener. Shchegoleva is a really solid player. And it seems we've found harryhoops79's dream team, as the Latvians have a whole raft of players sporting the high-socks look...

Basko looking particularly sharp in the second quarter, helping Latvia open a nine-point lead midway through. Jekabsone picked it up thereafter, and the halftime margin stands at 36-29. Latvia is one really good post away from being a serious medal contender...

Not one of Khammon's more memorable games, and Russia is in a spot of foul trouble with Korstin and Abrosimova being booked four times apiece. Late basket by Jekabsone puts Latvia in front 51-50 after three, then she opens the fourth with a trey...

Even factoring in their normal sandbagging at this stage, not an encouraging sign for the Russians. Arteshina's absence is significant, and Vodopyanova seems to have fallen completely off Grudin's radar in favor of Osipova, who doesn't have nearly the bulk to trade effectively in the paint. Jekabsone was able to get a shot whenever and wherever she needed to, keeping Latvia in control for most of the final 30 minutes. Very curious to see how the U.S. chooses to attack either of these teams; there are a multitude of options...

Maiga-Ba sporting a WNBA-logo headband for Mali today. Appears to be an issue with condensation on the floor, causing a delay midway through the first quarter with China holding a 9-8 lead...

Gunta Basko is Europe's best kept secret. I hope a WNBA team picks her up.

Is anyone else's CCTV player really sucking? Mine's like a slideshow. And I never had issues with WNBA webcasts.

Intriguing first quarter. China doesn't want any part of Sissoko inside, but at the other end is absolutely picking apart the Malian defense. China leads 20-18 entering the second...

More of the same (power vs. finesse) in the second quarter. All but one of Mali's field goals have come from inside five feet, while China has mixed in Chen Nan's usual array with long-range strikes from Miao and Sui to forge a 35-32 halftime lead. Assists are 9-0 in favor of the hosts, who also committed only two fouls for the half...

Damn. I can't get this video to work. The Chinese one is slow and buffers a lot. The Eurosport one stops and starts a lot. The British one has horrible picture quality, but actually runs well.

Mali favored a zone in the third quarter, apparently hoping to avoid further Princetoning from Maher's charges, but a late flurry of transition baskets stretched China's lead to 61-50 entering the fourth...

Mali's lost their momentum. Maiga was on the bench for a long time.
