The WNBA contest this weekend between the Sparks and the Mercury was more exciting than the NBA playoff game yesterday. There was more scoring and more excitement.

Beats the article we got in the Seattle P-I by the notorious Couch Slouch (he who thought he actually had a chance to beat Sue Bird at HORSE):
The Couch Slouch: WNBA won't be expecting The Slouch

I think whoever it was who said that the male sports naysayers are threatened may be on to something. He's been denegrating the W for so many years, that even when he sees an excellent basketball product he's unwilling to link it to the League as a whole. Rolling Eyes

I gave the WNBA another go Saturday, with its Los Angeles Sparks-Phoenix Mercury season opener on ABC. This wasn't your mother's WNBA: Both teams were burying jumpers in a terrific contest.

Before he goes on to poke fun at the relatively low TV ratings.

Though he does print some telling statements (since he is apparently a representative of the target audience) about the new ad campaign (already covered in another thread about backlash, I'm sure):

Frankly, I don't think they can shame me or scare me into buying WNBA season tickets.
