Quote:

For a coach defined by her numbers, as well as by the ferocity that flashes onscreen when she stares down a sloppy play, the biggest gun in Pat Summitt's arsenal may be her adaptability. For 33 years, she has controlled a game that has changed radically since she played it herself. And she has done so by constantly reattuning herself to her players' needs.

Thanks for the link. Solid article. No one else, in any sport has managed to stay on top for so long. As the article points out, her ability to adapt to the changes in women's basketball makes her the best that ever was.

It's easy to adapt when you routinely get a top-5 recruiting class. I would be even more impressed if she left UT and rebuilt a program.

Why should she have to do that? She built the program she's currently coaching from the ground up, and years later she's reaping the benefits from her hard work. Same with Geno. UConn was not "UConn" before he got there, and it's going to be at or near the top for years to come.

These are the two coaches in WBB that have nothing to prove and nobody to impress, IMO. Combined, they are as great as John Wooden was for UCLA.

LOL, those players don't just fall in Pats lap like mana from Heaven...recruiting is what she does best and it's damn hard work!

Sure, that's why all the other power programs of the 70's and 80's even early 90's are still up there. No way Texas and USC could go from perennial national championship contenders to having 15-20 year gaps between final fours.
