Quote:
San Antonio (420)
Houston (261)
Indiana (167)
Charlotte (97)
Phoenix (55)

Pick Order:

1. Sting

2. Fever

3. Mercury

4. SilverStars

5. Comets

Almost as if it was made by hand in order of need...

Interesting how the teams in greatest need get the top picks... Charlotte and Indiana are teams that have been low on long-term talent which over-achieved. If McCarville and Poindexter and Batteast remain the top 3 picks, it would work out for the best for each team and the league.

The SASS don't need a C, SG or PF, Houston only really needs a PG and SG. However, Charlotte needs a Center, Indiana needs a SG and Phoenix needs a Post. Idea

Why does Houston need a SG?
That is assuming Janeth doesn't come back, but even so...they have more pressing needs.

...Right after the Sting landed the top pick, it was up on the Sting's Website. 20 mins later, the other team homepages posted the info. Houston is the last and as of now hasn't been posted its draft position... Sour Grapes perhaps? Clairvoyance? Confused

Odd indeed... but then again, as the #1 pick history has shown it always seems to go to the team in most need... Seattle got it in 2002, Cleveland in 2003, a team that was presumed to fold, and Phoenix in 2004. Now you have Charlotte likely winning the Janel McCarville sweepstakes, and what do they need the most? A center... Rolling Eyes

I doubt that Janeth is coming back to the W, and even if she does there's no guarantee she'll come back to The Comets.

Houston's front court is pretty well set. They had the league's worst backcourt last season.

If she's to come back, I don't think she'd go to any other team. She makes a lot of money here, she'd take a paycut to stay in Houston, that's for sure.

Well Houston's front line is pretty good even if Snow isn't an All-Star caliber player... That leaves the backcourt unfulfilled, though I'm sure Jamie Carey or one of those SGs that grow on trees will be available..

Meanwhile, Charlotte is using a 6'0" PF and playing their starting center only 28 minutes. Confused San Antonio really just needs a SF, and there aren't any obvious standouts in this year's draft.

If SASS or HOU got the top two picks, trades would likely go on and I don't think the league would like to see Margo and Snow moved... hence my initial conspiracy theory, lol.

TSB is Charlotte's 5.

Charlotte needs a 4 - which McCarville and Irvin could play. I think Irvin might be the better fit.

And I need a reason, a probabilistic one, for the 2 teams with the worst records to finish with the bottom 2 slots. That flat out sucks.

Sounds like GM mindgames to me... It just doesn't make sense unless Trudi plans on playing Powell ~15 mins a game, split between backing up the SF and PF position... Mazzante should improve greatly this year too.

But she also said she will consider making a trade on draft day if it will improve their team. A better mindgame would be to put McCarville on the block for Minnesota and ask for the world. Considering it would be a West-East trade, more might be put on the table.

I can't say I see McCarville as a 4, especially if she's matched up with the likes of the many mobile and decently mobile PFs like Tina Thompson and LJ... but I do know she's legit. And when you're picking #1s, teams always go safe. That and of course they can trade Janel more easily.

Hard to believe the two sides with the worst records get the last picks. They certainly look after those Eastern Conference sides. Then again, I suppose they need to.

I guess all of poor VeProf's predictions have gone out the window...so very surprising Laughing .

So, it's Charlotte, Indiana, Phoenix as the Top 3? Very interesting. I think this is why the Draft Lottery occurs. It certainly changes my perception on who will be picked in the Top 3.

I see Irvin, McCarville, and a guard of some sort going in Top 3...not necessarily in that order.

Conspiracy?

Murphy's Law?

Moral Values? Razz lol

No idea as of yet... Confused

I rather was hoping CHA and IND would get the top 2 picks (mainly because I'm still waiting to see the Marie-Margo Connection and worried about Dydek getting traded), but yeah, just on principle I think it's terrible that SASS would get 4th and behind Phoenix at that. Shocked

I am sure VeProf will claim the draft lottery was fixed by the Brigade.

I'm happy. Then again, according to 51% of America, my moral values, and by extension my principles, are wrong.

Phoenix should consider trading #3 for either Vanessa Hayden or Michelle Snow.

Honest Question for you Cam:

If Phoenix kept the #3 pick, and the players that you like are in the draft and still available after the first two picks, who would you take?

I love Irvin, but we would need to move either Plenette or Gwen...or pray one grows 2-3 inches. But I love that kid's game

I love Currie, and she would be a good fit here as well.

Honestly, for Phoenix, this year is a tough one. I would trade the pick.

That makes sense. As you suggested above, trading for Michelle Snow or Vanessa Hayden would be wise moves. I can't help but think how good Snow could be if she had the right coach and right team supporting her. Vanessa is a good choice as well.

Rant to follow...

VeProf has really earned his stripes as TDMFOTB tonight. I have never met anyone with his inability to comprehend other people's comments.
