OKay.. this may seem like a "dumb" question.. but i was just pondering this. Say a player and for the sake of not confusing thing we will name her Janet (haha). Lets say Janet is in Candace Parkers predicament. BUT Janet wants to go pro. But the only way Janet will go pro is if she goe's to Connecticut. If another team picks her she refuses to go. Yes janet seems stupid and selfish but can a player request that a certain team take her even if they dont have the number one pick?

they'd have to work a trade, i think. at this point in time, players can't dictate who they play for; at least, women can't.

No. The drafting team would have their rights.

"Janet" really wouldn't have control over what team picks her.

Any player in the draft could pull an "Elway".

If the drafting team wouldn't play ball, there's always more $$ in Europe until the drafting team decides to get something for nothing.

Only a very talented player could pull something like that off, but it's certainly a possibility.

She would lose whatever NCAA eligiblity she had left, right?

Europe would be a tough road for a college kid with no pro experience, but if they were very talented, as in NK's example, with a good, well connected agent, they could probably get a deal.

Interesting predicament.

they'd have her rights until the next draft ... then she would go back into the draft the next year.

if she did it again - was drafted and didn't sign (and didn't sign another pro contract overseas), then the following year, she'd be a rookie free agent.

so Janet would have to sit out 2 seasons - not likely.

if she did the pro contract thing instead, the initial drafting team would still hold her rights for a year after her pro contract is over. she could obviously then still refuse to play for them, but then she'd go back in the draft again for the next year and would start the game all over again.

not to mention making herself look like a prima donna head case. I hate it when NBA players do that.

Schuye LaRue left school early to go to Europe and failed miserably over there and in the WNBA.

don't you mean "Rot Ro!"

Seriously, I have a few questions. Why would "Janet" lose NCAA eligibility? As long as she didn't sign with an agent, she shouldn't lose eligibility, right?

So couldn't she just declare for the draft. Then if she is not drafted by the team she wants, then go back to college until the next draft? Theoretically, since, I mean IF "Janet" is a "red-shirt sophomore", she could do this twice.
