Nice.

Hendrix is underappreciated as a songwriter, generally speaking.

Here's my favorite cover of Have Love, Will Travel, written by Richard Berry of Louie, Louie fame.

The Sonics....quintessential garage rock, late 1964:

Best new cover I heard this year was Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer doing Dylan's "Not Dark Yet"

I thought this song was unsalvageable, but John Prine somehow makes it work

With the recent passing of Dick Dale, it's worth noting that his best known song, Misirlou, is a cover

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mKpsuGMeqHI" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The earliest recording is from 1927, from a Greek artist named Theodotos

Knew he didn’t write it but thanks for coming up with that one, pilight. That’s amazing.

Beyoncé's Homecoming is a fascinating record. Especially notable is a cover of "Before I Let Go", one the best and best known songs by Maze and Frankie Beverly. The original wasn't a huge hit on initial release, but it has lasted better than a lot of the songs that were bigger at the time (when was the last time you heard Roger Troutman's version of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine"?)

Found Harry Nilsson's Everybody's Talkin' posted by pilight on page 6 of this thread. My favorite all-time song. Playing (guitar or ukulele) AND singing this one aint easy -- something about that timing with the chord changes.

Whitney Houston recorded a cover of Higher Love in 1990. It was included on international releases of her third album

The original was a #1 hit for Steve Winwood in 1986

Not nearly as cool as pilight's contributions, but listening to some Anderson .Paak just earlier reminded me that one of my favourite Xscape songs is a Jones Girls cover

There is a website "SecondHandSongs.com" that has an exhaustive number of covers of hundreds of songs. There was a Broadway play with the song "Lazy Afternoon", I don't like the original, but I like Sheila Jordans cover, and Nina Simone's cover even better.

Another one you probably didn't know was a cover is this #1 hit from 1972

It was originally recorded by Pete Seeger in 1956

My favorite recent cover was by Adrienne Bailon during "The Masked Singer" this past season.

You're likely unfamiliar with Hendrix' "Wait Until Tomorrow" on the Axis: Bold As Love LP.

This cover of the guitar part is the best note-for-note homage I've ever heard.

Also, the iso of the guitar part really exposes the astonishing fluidiity, breadth, and depth of Jimi's style, imo.
