I've never used either of those.
It's free!

yeah, mozilla's firefox is the bomb. i haven't used the email program, thunderbird, which is also free, but my colleagues say it's the bomb, too. both firefox and safari allow you to either set up multiple tabs for sites in a single window as you go; or, as i do, to set up a folder with your top favorite sites, then launch and maintain all the sites/tabs at once in a single window. plus the pop-up blockers and whatnot. internet explorer is so over.

maybe i should rephrase, but i don't know how to say it. i have no doubt ie is still the internet browser of choice. but for people charged with protecting systems from bugs and vulnerabilities, ie is already being phased out, if not gone - except that some programs/databases were set up for ie, and firefox can't handle some third-party clients just yet.
(still struggling to rephrase, she said) i would say, in the way that ie was the new darling and netscape communicator was all of a sudden "so over," back when that happened, so too is ie now so over.

I'm stuck using IE at work. I hate it.
IE still belongs to microsoft, and as such will never be completely gone.

Is it because of programs written that only work in IE?
That is what is so sad, Gates breaks all the rules, doesn't follow standards that are developed, and then gets people to write applications that break the standards and that only IE will work with. And then the rest of the world tries out a new browser, and it won't work correctly in a lot of places, and of course they think the new browser is the problem, whereas actually the site is writing non-standard code that only Microsoft will work with.

yeah, that bytes. in my office we quietly encourage people to try mozilla but we don't officially support it. our "official" browser is ie because that's the one that a lot of our databases and propriety programs work with. at my previous gig, we were forbidden from using ie, and forced to use the inferior netscape, because the big guy detested bill gates. this is how our world goes 'round.

I'm stuck because that's what the office computers have on them and we are strictly forbidden to add any software. People have been fired for downloading and disc-loading innocuous software.
