This is my first-ever mock draft, so please be kind. Feel free to mock it, however. And now, for the main event...

2005 WNBA Draft~Round One:

1. Charlotte Sting--Janel McCarville. Provides rebounding, passing, and offense for lowest scoring team.

2. Indiana Fever--Tan White. Provides much needed backcourt scoring for a team that had the majority of it's backcourt points from Kelly Miller. Provides Deanna Jackson the opportunity to play the SF position.

3. Phoenix Mercury--Sandora Irvin. Provides rebounding for a team who's SF & PG were the leading rebounders. A great shot blocker who can hit the three will benefit from playing alongside the best backcourt in the WNBA.

4. San Antonio Silver Stars--Kendra Wecker. Perfect fit, in my opinion.

5. Houston Comets--Should pick Dionnah Jackson, but will probably pick Temeka Johnson. We are talking about Van here.

6. Washington Mystics--Dionnah Jackson. Runs the floor, hustles, rebounds, etc.~the player that Michael Adams described.

7. Detroit Shock--Kristen Mann. A player who I feel can really make it as a 3/4 in the league. Provides much needed size and will provide the opportunity for Swin to get a breather, and maybe fill-in minutes if Swin's knee is still questionable.

8. Connecticut Sun--Sancho Lyttle. An athletic post player with size. A much better option than Katie Feenstra, imo.

9. Sacramento Monarchs--Tanisha Wright. Just 'cause.

10. New York Liberty--Kristin Haynie. If they're smart, which is something that Blaze should never be called, they will take Kristin Haynie. A true point guard, allowing Becky to go back to her SG duties. A small backcourt, but much better ball-handling with Kristin at the helm instead of Becky.

11. Minnesota Lynx--If not Kristin Haynie, perhaps Jess Strom could work here? I'm confuzzled when it comes to the Lynx.

12. Seattle Storm--Shyra Ely. One Tennessee or UConn player must go in the first round.

13. Washington Mystics--Kara Braxton. If in shape, she could provide solid minutes in the post.

2005 WNBA Draft~Round Two:

14. San Antonio Silver Starts--Jacqueline Batteast.
15. Houston Comets--Steffanie Blackmon.
16. Indiana Fever--Chelsea Newton.
17. Minnesota Lynx--Angelina Williams.
18. Phoenix Mercury--Yolanda Paige.
19. Washington Mystics--Jessica Moore.
20. Detroit Shock--Laurie Koehn.
21. Connecticut Sun--Roneeka Hodges.
22. Sacramento Monarchs--Anne O'Neil.
23. New York Liberty--Katie Feenstra.
24. Charlotte Sting--Kelley Suminiski.
25. Seattle Storm--Catherine Kraayeveld.
26. Los Angeles Sparks--Dee Dee Wheeler.

2005 WNBA Draft~Round Three:

27. San Antonio Silver Stars--Heather Schreiber.
28. Houston Comets--Erica Smith-Taylor
29. Indiana Fever--Nikkita Bell.
30. Sacramento Monarchs--Jamie Carey.
31. Phoenix Mercury--Ashley Battle.
32. Washington Mystics--Ashley Early.
33. Detroit Shock--Kelli Roehrig.
34. Connecticut Sun--Loree Moore.
35. Sacramento Monarchs--Jessalyn Deveny.
36. New York Liberty--Caity Matter.
37. Minnesota Lynx--Cisti Greenwalt.
38. Seattle Storm--Jenni Dant.
39. Los Angeles Sparks--Megan Mahoney.

I personally think that top four is what will probably happen. Maybe a slight change if a trade occurs.

What's with everyone putting Ely into Seattle? Wink If it's said enough, it probably will happen. It's certainly something I don't want to happen. Not that I think Ely is bad but she is not what Seattle needs. I guess none of us think highly of Anne's drafting. After she drafted Jung Sun-Min to be a wing, I guess it's understandable.

Good work BBall!

I also do. San Antonio is crossing their fingers that someone takes Tan White in the first three...

My Mock/Wish Draft

1. Sting - Tan White
starters: SF: Feaster, PF: T.Smith C: Brown, PG: Staley, SG: White

2. Fever - Sandora Irvin
starters: SF: Catchings, PF: Irvin, C: Williams, PG: Miller, SG: Jackson

3. Mercury - Janel McCarville
starters: SF: Taylor, PF: Vodichkova, C: McCarville, PG: Tarausi, SG: DeForge

4. Silver Stars - Kendra Wecker
starters: SF: Wecker, PF: Thomas, C: Dydek, PG: Johnson, SG: Ferdinand

5. Comets - Sancho Lyttle
starters: SF: Swoopes, PF: Lyttle*, C: Snow, PG: Lambert, SG: Arcain
*until Thompson gets back in shape

6. Mystics - Kristin Haynie
starters: SF: Paige, PF: Milton-Jones, C: Melvin, PG: Haynie, SG: Beard

7. Shock - Tameka Johnson
starters: SF: Cash, PF: Ford, C: Riley, PG: Powell, SG: Nolan

8. Sun - Jacqueline Batteast
starters: SF: Douglas, PF: Batteast, C: McWilliams, PG: Whalen, SG: Sales

9. Monarchs - Dionnah Jackson
starters: SF: Powell, PF: Walker, C: Griffith, PG: Penicheiro, SG: Jackson

10. Liberty - Katie Feenstra
starters: SF: Robinson, PF: Baranova, C: Feenstra, PG: Hammon, SG: Christon

11. Lynx - Jess Strom
starters: SF: Abrosimova, PF: Williams, C: Ohlde, PG: Edwards, SG: Smith

12. Storm - Shyra Ely
starters: SF: Thompson, PF: Jackson, C: Burse, PG: Bird, SG: Lennox

13. Mystics - Kara Braxton

14. Silver Stars - Steffanie Blackmon

15. Comets - Yolanda Paige

I think the Comets should think big and draft a post player at 5. Irvin would be awesome but Lyttle is just as athletic and taller. Who knows how long it will take Tina to get back into shape? And even then she has hinted she doesn't want to play too many more years. Plus Snow doesn't really have a solid grasp of the starting 5 spot and her backup is an old, undersized Tari. They can draft a guard at 15 (Paige or Moore or Wright). [/i]

For NY I'd prefer Loree Moore.

23. New York Liberty--Katie Feenstra.

Katie can't jump. She just stands there and wishes the ball to her. I would rather take my chances on Kara Braxton.

I know Katie can't jump, and that Loree is taller & much stronger than Kristin, but I'm thinking Blaze will revert back to her old self and choose players who shouldn't really be chosen. I feel that NY should go for a PG, and then for a post player.

I can see the Liberty taking Braxton...Baranova won't be around forever.

This makes too much sense for Van to do...

BBall, I hate to burst your bubble, but the Mouth Piece is against Battle in Phoenix.

Other than that, your mock draft is a tremendous effort! BBall's a Ledge!

You didn't burst my bubble. That was just wishful thinking on my behalf. I just hope she makes a roster somewhere...that's all I want for her.

You'll learn to love her if she goes to Phoenix, and makes the team. She IMO has a lot of potential and is fast enough to play in the WNBA..(the only thing is, I don't know why Phoenix would want another guard...my guess is Battle goes to Connecticut.) She's one of my all time favorite players.....hell, I've watched her so much that the second she touches the ball I can tell what's going to happen to it.

Yeah, after looking at stats, that is about what I would think Battle would do....if that's what you were getting at....but she'd still be one of my all time favorite players....

Battle is Stacey Thomas to me...and her numbers at UConn, offensively, make her chances of sticking in the W for more than a year dim. But Stacey Thomas made it for a few years, so who knows?

I just have this feeling one of these "molders of young women" will see the attitude, speed, and work ethic of Battle and say "if I can reign in that energy I can do something with this". I see her as a deep bench player for 2-3 years before they say, nah can't do it.

Um, Katie Feenstra as a starting center for the Libs?? I'd like to have her but she's not a starter. She would be playing garbage minutes if anything and I wouldn't bench VJ for her just yet. Christon will start but not right away. She'll start when VJ proves that she can no longer be a starter.

And Tari maybe be old & undersized, but she can still kick some butt! Never underestimate the Tarnado!! Evah!!

It's alright Pilight, I didn't understand the benching VJ for Feenstra part either, but it's Keira. We'll just write it off as rantings of a mad woman who has had too much Blaze-ahol this morning! Razz

Not sure about this comment, but I'll let it slide...Yes Pilight, I DO realize Tari's in the black hole of the WNBA, but I believe she can still play at the highest level. Will she score 20 PPG? Hell, no...but she'll play hard!

And what I meant w/ the VJ/Feenstra comment was "where's VJ in all of this?" If Feenstra is drafted by the Libs, rest assured she won't be starting. That's all I'm saying.

The proposed starting lineup had VJ out and Feenstra in. That is what Keira responded to.

oooooohhhhhhhhh, now I see it. No way is whoever the Sun drafts going into the starting lineup either, unless somehow we end up with one of the "other" big 4. Where's my jersey Cam?

Keira is entitled to rant...she is one of the Blaze's victims.
