In NCAA history, four schools have won the NCAA title in their first F4 appearance: North Carolina in 1994, Texas Tech in 1993, Stanford in 1990, and Texas in 1986. ODU, USC, and La Tech won in their first NCAA F4 appearance but had made the AIAW F4 previously. Texas actually reached an AIAW F4 also, in 1982, but since the NCAA tournament was also held that year the AIAW results are usually discounted.

Six teams won AIAW/CIAW tournaments in their first F4 apperance: West Chester State in 1969, Cal Fullerton in 1970, Mississippi State College for Women in 1971, Immaculata in 1972, Delta State in 1975, and UCLA in 1978.

So the implication is that LSU could be added to the list, si?

LSU was in the F4 last year, and made the AIAW F4 in 1977 (beating Immaculata in Cathy Rush's last game as coach).

Do I need a point? I was just curious as to how many teams won in their first F4 appearance and decided to share the answer.

OK, I gotcha. I guess that's the difference between a statistician and an English major.
