This is how it works at Penn State. Call players out in a team meeting after a devastating NCAA Tournament loss, saying 'three of you won't be back and you know who you are', then call them to the hotel lobby at 1:30 AM in the morning, telling them one by one they are not coming back.

Wait until the players ask for permission to speak to other schools regarding a transfer, then announce they sought their own release and its been granted. Have your very own assistant AD explain that technically the students scholarships haven't been revoked, but they can't come back because in asking for permission to speak to other schools they reneged on their commitment to Rene Portland and Penn State Basketball.

Thanks for the link, Blue. I feel really sorry for these kids. What an embarrassment Portland is. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that University officials care. Indeed, they've known for quite a long time exactly what kind of human being she is, and they've let her stay there....

Thanks, courtside, appreciate it.

Some of you read the ESPN board, but if not, I'm asking that people email or leave a message for PSU President Graham Spanier asking what's going on here. Ask him if Coach Portland's recent actions are in conflict with PSUs Zero Tolerance for Hate Initiative, of which Stage Two was recently rolled out.

Some things to think about. Of all the scholarship athletes Coach Portland has recruited in the past two years, 5 of them are black and all of those 5 have either forfeited their scholarships or soon will be. None of the 3 white players Coach Portland has recruited in that same time span have been kicked off the team.

Also, 3 of the 5 are rumored to be, or have been at one time in relationships with one another. Caveat: This is not 'fact' but heresay that is said to be known in the womens' basketball circle on the Penn State campus. I'm bringing it up because if I heard it, then I'm sure that Rene did.

Sometimes perception alone can be damning. There has been a Washington Post article circulating written a few years back. It quoted an unnamed straight Penn State student athlete as saying she feared retribution from Coach Portland based on the appearance of being gay.

Heres President Spaniers contact information, if anyone wants it-

Also, the man to talk tp about Penn State's Zero Tolerance for Hate Initiative is the Executive VP and Provost of Educational Equity, Dr Terrell Jones.

The contact information for Dr. Jones is listed below. Or, you can ask to sponsor a womens basketball team member in filling out the application to join Penn State's Zero Tolerance for Hate Support Network. The form is here.
