Some guy on the Nikon D70 board where I hang out posted a picture of gravestones with a smoke stack as the backdrop and called the image/thread... "Death by Capitalism." Boy did THAT draw blood with those rich boys over there. Whew!

Then some Cuban from Miami jumped in and all hell broke loose. Now the jammer doth resisted. You all would be very surprised at my behavior on that board. I've been totally non-controversial and 100% non-confrontational. The thread was over 100 messages long before I had anything to say on the matter.

But fuck it.

The jammer respondeth...

Have to? If communism as outlined by Marx has never come close to being applied (hardly in the spirit it was intended) as a form of government, with nothing but horribly corrupt distortions to view as historical records of communism in practice, how can you say specifically what would or wouldn't be available as choices in an unseen hypothetical communist system which undoubtedly would contain its own planned and unplanned variations?

We are savages. That's the jammer's theory. Capitalism is the NATURAL ORDER. It is completely natural to compete and want more for yourself, to hoard, and it's nearly impossible for humans to turn off the fears and anxieties that drive our actions as well as the emotional gratifications of achieving security and even luxury. Forget Marx. The "idea" of communism is a reaction or a theoretical solution that seeks to address the negatives that result from letting the human race run willy-nilly on fear and greed. We should be able to see at this point that financial empires can be far more ubiquitous and dangerous than some corrupt dictatorship that is simply a ruse using the dream of communism as subterfuge.

Look at the American food industry and the hearts and arteries and obesity of the American people. Are we the land of plenty? Just like to eat? Do the Europeans just drink more red wine with their meat, cheese, and butter? No. Now we're finding out that it's these laboratory creations made from corn syrup (in place of sugar) and hydrogenated oils (trans-fats) that the food industry has been cooking up for American for decades. They do it because they can make far more money doing it. They're capitalists first. They want MORE money and so do their shareholders and the combination of greed and opportunity that enable them to perpetrate something this destructive to the well being of the people for the sake of making more money is how capitalism can be used to destroy our lives for the sake of someone else's precious profits.

Here in the US, we don't adequetly take care of the elderly or underpriveledged children or the mentally ill, or the damaged veterans of the wars we've sent them to fight. If we did, someone would have to pay for it, just as someone is now paying for the inadequete help these groups DO get. That's a form of economic leveling. Is it communism? Hey... some people think so. Socialism is as dirty a word in many sectors as communism. The rich in this country use our own government against us. They have lobbiests that work to put their agendas in front of Congress and the president and they use their money to buy off our elected politicians like so many ten dollar prostitutes. Bills passed and signed by the president are thousands of pages long and contain esoteric and arcane provisions that matter to no private citizen except the wealthy capitalists who paid to put them there, in exact and precise language.

That's capitalism. That's how it has played out in this country. Some of you guys call it freedom but Marx didn't write his theories as an attack on freedom. He wrote as an attack on the power and corruption of capitalism. It was a reaction to oppresion and, in reality, at this time, communism is no longer a threat to the wealthy of the world. But the wealthy of the world have never ceased being a threat to the freedom and well being of the rest of the planet.
