#1 They're a bit late

#2 It is a shameful book. The plotting is "interesting" but the narrative technique and characters... ugh! At least I didn't contribute to the gazillion sales of utter tripe (unfortunately my dad did which is how I got to read the book!)

I already read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, so I didn't see much point in reading this one.

As prose, it is crap. As a plot, it is fascinating. If only it were in the hands of a competent author...

The research is also sloppy.

It's a novel. A best-selling mystery/thriller. I didn't expect it to be Eco or anything. It was an OK read. A beach read.

What I did not expect is that many people believe it to be, ah, gospel truth. Every detail. Americans are a puzzling group.

I've had remarkable conversations with people I formerly considered intelligent who are unable to grasp the difference between fiction and fact. They're so fervent about the book.

Laughing

I suppose it serves as a good example for us budding authors though - you can make a cottage industry out of mediocre schtick.
