Quote:
YORK, March 14 - The WNBA announced that its 2005 Draft will take place on Saturday, April 16 at 12:00 pm (ET). ESPN2 will televise the first round live from the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, NJ. NBATV will provide live coverage of the second and third rounds.

In addition to live television coverage of the 2005 WNBA Draft, WNBA.com will present fans with comprehensive news and analysis of the entire draft process starting today. WNBA.com's pre-draft coverage will include a NCAA Tournament prospect tracker, in-depth analysis of prospective draftees by Rebecca Lobo, ESPN's Ann Meyers and Sacramento Monarchs guard and ESPN analyst Kara Lawson, as well as insider reports from WNBA Pre-Draft Camp. WNBA.com will also provide full coverage of all three rounds of the Draft.

Top players eligible for this year's draft include 2004 Associated Press All-Americans Shyra Ely from Tennessee, Jacqueline Batteast from Notre Dame, Temeka Johnson from Louisiana State, Janel McCarville from Minnesota, Kendra Wecker from Kansas State and Sandora Irvin from Texas Christian.

Wecker will likely be taken higher than Batteast, Ely, and Temeka Johnson.

Okay, I'll bite. If you assume Wecker will be before the others, rightly so, but then I don't understand you're first post with the " Shocked " symbol after her name. What's the point you're making?

Care to clarify, Admiral? Not sure what you meant by your initial questioning of Wecker...

I saw Kilzer asked the same question on the ESPN board as well.

I know you've probably heard this before, but think a better rebounding Katie Smith, and you've got Wecker. She got her Wildcats a 4 seed on 20.6 ppg and 10.1 rpg.

ESPN has never shown more than the first round, which is what they're showing this year.

not impressed by Wecker? good god, man, why?

the only thing she lacks is foot speed. She shoots fairly well (only fairly -- that's where the Katie Smith analogy breaks down -- that's why she's only a "poor man's Katie Smith," and not just "the next Katie Smith). She crashes the boards like a mofo. She passes. She works her damn butt off. You can see her devotion to the game in her physique and her strength. She is coachable. She is great now, and she will only get better.

i feel you, shy. actually, this is a setback in my book because the first round was on espn last year. now it's back on espn2, which reaches fewer households. i'm gonna close my eyes and pretend that donna o. took over too late to change what was already agreed upon.

first, not a man.

like i said, i just saw her in that game against baylor, and she didn't do much for me. slowness was a factor, i didn't see her creating her own shot much, and there was a point at which the commentators were like, FINALLY, it looks like wecker is going to take charge! then... fizzle.

but, if you all are in love with her, it must have been a bad night... either that or the pain meds were playing tricks again... Wink

Well, *that* might explain why he's not diggin' Wecker... I eagerly await the illustrated and emoticon-filled rebuttal to this.

(hey, doesn't everyone have to get in on the bash-o-rama sometime?)
