Career stats to back up my comments on Katie Smith VS Chamique Holdsclaw.
SMITH-218 GPlayed-41%FG, 37%3pt, 86%FT, 3.2RPG, 2.4APG, 0.9SPG, 0.2BPG, 2.2TOPG, 2.8PFPG, 17.1 PPG, 3,729 career points(3rd all time in wnba history and she was also the fastest to score 3,000 points).
HOLDSCLAW-195 GPlayed, 44%FG, 26%3PT, 70%FT, 8.6RPG, 2.6APG, 1.3SPG, 0.6BPG, 2.9TOPG, 2.4PFPG, 18.1 PPG, 3,521 career points. |
So, because Holdsclaw leads in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game, plus FG% that backs up your point?
Holdsclaw was the fastest to 3000, BTW, reaching that mark in 165 games. Smith took 167 games to reach 3000.

So what if Claws team made it past the first round of the playoffs? You know how many losses the mystics had with her on that team? |
I would say that Claw's playoff wins count for a heck of a lot more than Smith's regular season wins.
Smith has choked every time she's been in the postseason. Her ppg drops by 2.5 per game and she shoots under 30% from three (and only 37% overall).

Smith Is Fastest WNBA Player To 3,000 Points
June 11, 2004 — Lynx guard Katie Smith reached the 3,000-point plateau in Minnesota's 55-69 loss at Los Angeles. Smith, who tallied 18 points and now has 3,012 points in her WNBA career, achieved the milestone with an 18' jump shot with 14:13 remaining in the first half. Smith reached the mark in 167 games, faster than the three other players already in the 3,000-career-point circle (Lisa Leslie 172 games, Tina Thompson 195, Andrea Stinson 211).
The 5-11 guard is the all-time leading scorer in the history of women's professional basketball (ABL/WNBA) with 4,443 points. She scored 1,431 points in two-plus seasons with the Columbus Quest of the ABL.
Earlier this season, Smith moved past Jennifer Gillom into fourth place on the WNBA's all-time scoring list. A four-time All Star and four-time All-WNBA performer, Smith is a member of the U.S. Women's Basketball Team that will compete in the 2004 Olympics in Greece.

claw may have done it in 165 games, but Katie still is the fastest, time wise. Even over leslie.

Umm, you're going to have to explain that one to me. Doesn't fastest mean fewest games? More importantly, isn't that what is relevant?

Yes, her 167 games was the fastest. Holdsclaw broke her record.
Lauren Jackson is fairly likely to break the record again this season. She needs 147 points to reach 3000 and has played 155 games.
