I just got back from the BTT. Man-o-man did the Gophers have a run!
I see alot of negative comments about Janel on the WNBA board but let me tell you I have NEVER seen a player play with more heart than that girl! She has my respect, not even close to having an ounce of quit in her.
Davenport followed by Roerig was a difficult 24 hours. She looked like she left everything and then some on the court.
BTW saw Graf, Lacey, Dunn, Thibault, Coyle and Sacs assistant at the MN vs Ohio State game.

Wish we could have been there.
Of course I agree 100% with your comments on Janel. I've said this elsewhere but it bears repeating: if Roehrig had spent Sunday playing against Davenport (in OT) and Janel had spent Sunday playing against Ashli Schwab, it might have been Roehrig whose shots hit the front of the rim.
A lot of the negative commentary about Janel has been generated by a small group of Purdue fans-- one fan in particular, whom I won't name-- angry about one perfectly legal pick Janel set on Shereka Webb two months ago. Although Kristy Curry did ask that they call the game tightly before her team played the Gophers, to the best of my knowledge only one figure with any official presence in WCBB has encouraged fans to regard Janel's play as "dirty": who? Rene Portland.
Thibault at MN-OSU? Janel won't be around by the time he picks: was he looking at Matter? Or just enjoying the game while waiting to scout the seniors at MSU-PSU?

Not sure who he was watching but his assistant was there also.
I forgot to mention SMS was there too.

Heck, I would go to see Davenport-McCarville. Matter has a beautiful pure shooting stroke. Hoskins and Ashley Allen are superbly athletic. And Kim Wilburn is one of the most underrated point guards in the country.

Don't know much about Minnesota outside McCarville or Podominick, so thanks for the update.

you should know Broback too. She's a 6'2" or 6'3" banger who can hit threes. She's a tough and angry mf on the court, too. She needs to play better D and become a better rebounder, but she's got some prospects.

Given the compact WNBA schedule and the size & quality of WNBA posts, this notion makes me even less of a believer in McCarville at the next level.
In any event, Roehrig didn't exactly shoot the lights out, going 4/11 from the field.

Janel played something like 37 minutes on Sunday and again on Monday. She's not going to do that during her first month in the W. unless she's abysmally mishandled by whoever ends up coaching her (which could happen). I think we really just don't know. I agree that how she'll handle the compact schedule is a serious question mark, but if she plays 23 minutes a game, sometimes comes off the bench, and/or gets more help in physical defense (something Broback doesn't always provide) she could exceed all expectations. (Not "will." "Could.")
