I guess Amber's head-to-head domination of Tina Charles didn't account for much Shocked Rolling Eyes Laughing

I never said they did. But, their AAU squads did. And we all know what happened there.

Well since the season isn't even over for many of the players included....

Do you really believe that this is ALL about the high school season? My guess is this award was given out the moment Charles verballed to UConn.

Oh puleeeze; that's just ridiculous. So the fact she's the best player on the number 1 team in the country is nothing. If she had gone anywhere else she wouldn't have won?

That Purdue chip on your shoulder is amazing; and I like Purdue!

Hmm, don't know about all the politics involved in the POY award but anyway, congrats to Amber and Dee Dee, can't wait for them to arrive in West Lafayette. Smile

Hopefully I can make it to Boston and watch them play in the WBCA game!

Honestly, I truly think Tina Charles earned this honor. I know some fans here just think that because Tina is going to UConn, she was named POY. I think that when you look at her statistics and how her team has performed, she deserves this honor, but whatever.

Essentially, at Basketball in the Bayou, Amber Harris and Tina Charles went up against one another. Amber got the better of Tina, largely because Amber is a 6'6" wing who can take 6'4" PF off the dribble and can shoot over her. Amber has more skills when it comes to scoring from various spots on the court, and because of her height, she also gets a lot of rebounds, deflections, and blocks. She's essentially a slightly taller, but not quite as talented Candace Parker.

Tina Charles, on the other hand, is DeLisha Milton-Jones. Or, a very similar type of player. There's a lot of power in Tina's game, and she's more of a post than Amber.

Jacki Gelemos... Southern Cal... Still doesn't sound right. I remember about two years ago there was a huge article about her coming to UConn in my local paper. Talk about getting hyped up - it said she'd probably be better than DT. Well, we will never know. Good Luck.

So you're basically downplaying this matchup because Amber is taller and Tina Charles cannot guard her. Rolling Eyes

No. I said that Amber has more skills than Tina...which she does. Also, Amber is taller than Tina and is more of a wing than Tina, therefore, she is more adept at taking a player like Tina off the dribble.

Tina was dominated by Amber. I know that and the Purdue fans know that. Amber is an extremely talented player, and is considered to be the top player in the class of 2006, and she outplayed Tina Charles. Tina is still a very talented player in her own right, and based on what she did *this high school year* she should be the POY award winner.

Dang...are Purdue fans going to be like this next year if Angie Bjorklund or Maya Moore wins POY?

OK...just checking Wink .

Honestly, I hope that the Purdue fans truly enjoy having Amber Harris. I think that she'll be a wonderful player for Purdue. I've heard that she's a lot like Candace Parker...which is awesome for Purdue. The UConn-Purdue series should be awesome for many years to come.

No. Now if Brittany Rayburn doesn't win in '08 and Skylar Diggins doesn't win in '09, then I'll have a problem. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

The Purdue fans play the respect card. A good portion of it started when Shereka Wright didn't win Big Ten POY and wasn't voted to any of the Kodak All-America teams, despites her outstanding numbers.

Part of the problem is Purdue's SID and media folks aren't as good as others around the country. Purdue is a program with a large fan base, but rarely is on national television, despite several years of finishing in the top 2 in the Big Ten or winning Big Ten titles.

Well, Elena Delle Donne might win in 2008, but I agree about Skylar. They surely will both be leading candidates to win the awards in their respective years.

BTW, aren't Alex Guyton and Maggie Boyer also supposed to be very talented players coming from Indiana (or that area)?

A lot of supreme talent is coming out of Indiana the next few years. Purdue surely cannot have all of it Wink .
