. . . and i will be so glad when they stop talking about these films to death! that said, three pieces of trivia gleaned from a news show yesterday:

alfred hitchcock never won an oscar.

the song "somewhere over the rainbow" was almost cut from "the wizard of oz" because the film was running over.

"the color purple," nominated for 11 oscars, got nothing.

I remember the controversy it caused.

I wouldn't mind watching Chris' opening, and seeing Morgan Freeman FINALLY receiving his Oscar. However, I just have a hard time with that show in general.

I'm moving in about four weeks.

I plan on leaving my television in L.A.

i've heard about people like you! dunno how you('d) do it, slovy. i'm definitely a child of the tv generation. gotta have it. when i'm camping, on retreat, in brasil, i don't think about it. but to be at home and not have the tv on in the background - always on, rarely watching - that's a totally foreign concept to me.

LOL!

I had been following "24" but it turned out that it didn't actually have anything to do with Tamika Catchings.

I think my habit is the internet. I keep my computer on the message board while I'm home and check it about every 40 minutes to see who's saying what.
I don't need the TV on top of that.
It's been a week since I turned it on.
I found myself blowing two hours every night after work watching reruns of Seinfeld, Simpson's, King of the Hill, Malcom...(granted, that's good TV compared to everything else.)
Then I'd watch the [bad] news before bed every night.
I used to go to a gym after work - or run a few miles.
I'm moving into a smaller apartment. I don't have the space for a 32" TV and I don't need the distraction.
As for movies, I heard last night "Diary Of A Mad Black Woman" is really good. I haven't been to a movie in years but I think I'll check this one out.

In all honesty, the show's first couple episodes were pretty good. It became so predictable I couldn't take it any more.

I know what you mean about having it on in the background. I would turn it on and then go upstairs to my computer - "listening" to the news - lol!

I just put in my DVD copy of 2010. Fox had Independence Day and I don't want to watch the Oscars. I watched Popeye with Robin Williams earlier. Yesterday I finished watching my DVD collection of Night Court, The First Season. Not the best quality in transfer, but still one of the funniest sitcoms made in that era.

When I decided to ditch the TV, I thought that I could get my favorite sitcoms on DVD and watch them on my computer. I know Seinfeld and the Simpsons are available. I think I Love Lucy is too

the impending oscars did put me in a movie mood, and hbo and a coupla pbs stations obliged commercial-free with some good ones: "the cooler," "the usual suspects" and "in the heat of the night." as for tv on dvd, i never thought a tv series could be as good as "west wing" running seamlessly without commercial breaks.

WGN and some other stations up here were running In the Heat of the Night all February. It is a great movie, even for its age.

Nope, she's been begging for one, too! She's seen it before, and I've told her that I'm definitely buying it when it comes out on DVD this week.

I gotta have it too. Like I said, I can still watch movies on my computer.

Kids shouldn't have TV's in their rooms, really.

We have enough elsewhere, let her go watch in another room if she doesn't want to watch what we do; actually, I think I have that backwards!!

The real Hoosiers game from 1954 was on ESPN Classic before the movie. What a hoot! You want to see a confused kid, the look on Dani's face when she saw how narrow the lane was... Laughing
