Can I ask a really stupid question?

What does 'cored' actually mean?

Being cored doesn't prevent a sign-and-trade.

Teams are permitted to designate two players who would otherwise be Restricted or Unrestricted Free Agents as Core Players and retain exclusive negotiating rights to such players. The team must offer the player a one-year contract at the maximum, fully guaranteed salary in order to designate a player as Core. The player and team may then negotiate a multi-year contract.

The Core Player designation lasts for the original duration of the contract signed between the team and the player, regardless of extensions, or until that player is traded or retires. Accordingly, if a team designates two players as Core and signs both of those players to multi-year contracts, such team may not have use of another Core designation for a number of years.

Streaks, a cored player is one that a team has designated as a core player. Each team has the ability to core two players, meaning they still retain the player rights regardless of free agency.

When a team designates a core player, they have to offer them a max contract. The teams can change their core players every year, if they want.

Here's my theory.
The Shock are signing Kedra Holland Corn and announcing it tomorrow.
Some other team, I don't know, is working on that all-star-signing business.

Riley won't go to LA for Teasley. Why? Because LA doesn't need Ruth Riley at all. And Detroit, well, can't say they don't need Teasley! But they're getting almost too stocked up on talent/allstars it may put them into a financial recession if they don't stop soon! Plus, like I've been saying...A trade involving players going from Detroit to LA and viceversa, is blasphemy!

I really don't want this to involve Minnesota. I want them to build with what they have and make the decision between Cappie and Augustus.

Additionally, I won't be worried if it involves Houston, Cross seems to be making his presence known there and won't let Van do anything too terribly dumb.

Does it say that it's All-Stars on both sides? I just figured it involved one or maybe more All-Stars.

It says All StarS, plural. It could be multiple All Stars all going one way, but I don't think that seems likely.

I just read this on the WNBA offseason blog

"In Other News... It's now officially midnight and February 1 is here. But we're not giving anything away until the teams do first. See you in the morning. In the meantime, digest this (Seattle's free agency page and Detroit's free agency page) tonight and ask questions tomorrow."

Does this hint that the trade involves Seattle and Detroit? Shocked

Nope, he's referring to this and this.

And I doubt Seattle would sign and trade LJ...

Oh I forgot Lennox was a past All Star. Seems like a lifetime ago...

I question anybody who would trade for Lennox but woohoo for Seattle if they do! (unless they get badly robbed in the trade, like trading Betty for a late 1st rounder in this year's draft).

Lennox is an unrestricted free agent - doesn't make a lot of sense to trade anything for her.

Trading Betty is what I'm worried about. Hope that won't happen. at least, not this year.
Anyway, there have been couple players being signed, but where is the All-stars trade? Question

Just think about the meaning of All-Star. And think about what else the term might encompass.

All-Star... Anna DeForge is sort-of an All-Star.

Snell has probably been a part of the All-Star 5 in the WNBL, along with numerous others.

You could theoretically be one of the FIBA league All-Stars - such as Katie Douglas, the leading vote getter. I doubt it's her though.

The NWBL would be another option. I don't know what else All-Star could entail.

Anna DeForge has never, in fact, been an All Star.

Chasity Melvin
Delisha Milton
Ruth Riley
Sheri Sam
Michelle Snow
Tammy Sutton-Brown
Diana Taurasi
Penny Taylor
Nikki Teasley
DeMya Walker
Ann Wauters
Swin Cash
Cheryl Ford
Becky Hammon
Mwadi Mabika
Deanna Nolan
Sue Bird
Tamika Catchings
Marie Ferdinand
Lauren Jackson
Shannon Johnson
Taj McWilliams-Franklin
Yolanda Griffith
Katie Smith
Sheryl Swoopes
Tina Thompson
Chamique Holdsclaw
Lisa Leslie

She was in that national team/"WNBA All Star" game in 2004. So theoretically, she could qualify.

Is this deal going to happen...and if it is, is it going to be disappointing, expected, or a surprise? These are all very important questions.

Oh, and my avatar is because PUmatty stole the Sun's star. I had to go find another one Very Happy .

Right...if you're cored, you can still be signed and traded. Unlikely, but still a possibility.

Hmm, if one of the cored players is signed & traded, who would it most likely be?

Okay. Who is?

I love Anna, I think she's been great for the Mercury, but since Phoenix isn't going to get rid of Penny and Diana, she was their best option in a trade. I guess they decided not to do so. That's fine...I just hope Phoenix can somehow find a PG and a PF/C by the time the season starts.

i don't have a clue about this, but if i had to guess, i would start with deforge, since Cam seems to know something. plus, no way NY is giving up Becky. her photo's on everything, she sells tons of jerseys, she brings in many of the few fans who are still buying tickets, guys think she's straight and adorable...there's a reason why she's cored.

i'll eat my Becky jersey if she's traded. i don't know how, but i'll eat it.
