Americans can't win a game after wining the gold in 2021.

What in the world is going on? I don't care a thing about 3x3, but how can the US be so dominant basketball and so bad at this?

Just look at the roster. If the US had been able to field a team of WNBA players they should have won. But when the best player on the court is Tiffany Hayes and she is playing for Azerbaijan this what happens. Dearica Hamby, Cierra Burdick and Hailey Van Lith are not A level players. Rhyne Howard didn't look much better.

Despite what some people are saying the 3X3 format isn't dramatically different from 5 on 5 in terms of skill set. In 2021 we had Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, Stephanie Dolson and Alisha Gray. Better players generally means better results.

But I guess my question is why isn't the US roster any better. I know that you have to play in pre-Olympics tournaments, but surely there are plenty of better players who would do that if they would be able to go win a gold medal.

How did USA Basketball get in a position where they are sending Hailey Van Lith and Cierra Burdick are the best they can do?

Cierra Burdick was not the problem. Rhyne Howard has been HORRIBLE. She clearly does not understand how to play 3x3. Benefit of the doubt: she's just not in shape due to her injury. It's like somebody told her that her main role is to hit from behind the arc so she thinks that means standing out there the whole game. It's perpetual motion game. Everyone moving ALL THE TIME. Rhyne's defense might be even worse than her offense and she couldn't hit nothing.

US 3x3 now 3-3. Looks like Rhyne is FINALLY getting how to play 3x3. She's shooting almost as many 1 pt shots as 2 pt shots, which is good cuz she's still not hitting from behind the arc. On the other hand, HVL is positively sucking at 1 pt attempts.
