I totally missed the fact that there is a new WBIT Tournament. It looks like a lot of teams that would have normally have gone to the WNIT are playing in this tournament.

Here's the bracket - https://www.ncaa.com/_flysystem/public-s3/images/2024/03/17/2024-WBIT-bracket.png

Info about the tournament:
In 2023 the NCAA announced the creation of an annual 32-team postseason invitation tournament for women’s basketball, which will be owned and funded by the NCAA. The Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) will be held annually beginning in 2024.

FAQ on the tournament site:

This tournament release is confusing, the bracket you posted doesn't even have James Madison on it, and they posted a tweet saying they are a #1 seed. Did a team pull out so they needed a replacement, why is there 5 announced #1 seeds?

Edit:
Never mind they released a new bracket. Miami was #1 seed and now they aren't in the tournament. Instead of reseeding the whole tournament they just plugged them in as a #1 seed.

Here's an announcement about the teams participating and I don't see James Madison there either - something is odd here after seeing that tweet you posted - https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-women/article/2024-03-17/inaugural-2024-wbit-pairings-released

I responded before I saw this - the pairing release story they have still has Miami in it. Interesting they didn't have James Madison in there at all and then plugged them in as a #1 seed.

Yeah, this is the official NCAA secondary tournament, a la the men's NIT (the WNIT is run by a separate organization). I honestly did not expect teams to be able to decline bids.

The husband told me to talk him out of going to Philly for the Seton Hall game at St. Joe's. Did such a great job that now we're both going (since it's probably the only postseason game we get).

I understand that Miami declined the WBIT invitation. They can't be the only one who declined. Who are they? Anyone know?

It's still so odd to me that they put out a release saying Miami was a 1 seed and listed them as such in their bracket - don't you think you'd verify if the team accepted a bid before publicizing that info? Unless like you said you're not supposed to be able to decline bids.

Ha ha on the Seton Hall game - good luck - hope you bring them luck Smile.

Well, JMU is playing Stony Brook at home in the AUBC. Should be interesting as Stony Brook's coach is a former JMU assistant and the Seawolves have at least one former JMU player on their roster.
