This article grabbed me by the (eye)balls. Shocked The most dismaying thing to me is that this is generally (?) considered a "Good Thing".....or is it? I mean, I don't even know if it generates revenue for our sport, but at the very least, many might see it as a sign of growing interest in our game.

Having seen, in my personal circle of friends and loved ones, the devastating effect that Compulsive Gambling can generate, I'm always leery of THIS kind of 'growth'. There can be (IS) a very dark, disturbing underbelly to this all.

I consider compulsive gambling to be an addiction, not far remooved from abuse of drugs or alchohol. Ya ever notice, no one ever touts, "Yes, alchohol sales are up 198% for the superbowl!"

Hmmmm.

That's AMAZING. No one here has any sentiments about this phenomenon, or knows anyone that this affects. Rolling Eyes

I agree that gambling is NOT a "good thing"...it is addictive and has ruined people's lives in providing for their families and children. And it is also nurturing unlawful practices from the top down to the bottom of the spectrum. Anything regarded as a risk will be dangerous, but something that is also addictive is where the ultimate ruination comes in, because it prevents one from knowing where/when to walk away, and salvage something in the end.....
