In under one hour time, Sydney will tip off against Dandenong in the WNBL grand final (at Dandenong). It will be the best offensive team in the competition (Sydney) against the best defensive team in the competition (Dandenong). Dandenong have depth but we have star power in Belinda Snell and Trish Fallon. I think the keys to the game will be Sydney stopping Dandenong's quick guards, rebounding and Sydney finding other scorers besides Snelly and Fallon.

This is our fifth grand final in a row and we've lost the last three. Basketball deities, we've paid our dues! Laughing

It would also be a nice birthday present, as today is my birthday! Very Happy

...I'm thinking the Sydney Flames are going to win this one Confused Even though the Rangers look to be favored and they're playing in Dandenong.

Sydney lose fourth consecutive grand final, 52-47.l

It came down to one thing - boxing out. Both teams were executing like shit but Dandenong scooped up more possession and if you have more possession, generally you'll score more. Jacinta Hamilton was awesome with something like 19 points and 12 rebounds. McInerny held Snell to 12 points.

Oh well. Karen - get us a bad ass rebounder for next year!

As for the grand final itself: ugly, ugly game.
Nervous, low-scoring, tight defence... not much of a spectacle that's for sure.
Congratulations to Dandenong for choking slightly less than Sydney.
Seeing Snelly get blanketed like she was today might bring some expectations of her back down to earth a little (which isn't a bad thing)

Oh the irony of a team scoring 50 points to win a grand final! Laughing

I'm starting to think I was one of very few to tip the Rangers.

An ugly game, but great individual efforts from McInerney and Hamilton. Mac wore Snell literally like a glove, some of the shots Belinda threw up looked like they were simply out of frustration with her lack of points.

McInerny is a world class defender. I don't think Snelly is going to get that sort of attention in the WNBA.
