Inept offense in the 2nd.
The two teams combined to shoot 10-34.
Fulwiley played 3 min in the 1st half.
UNC's chances lie in scoring. Donarski could get hot. I watched her score 30+ against Bueckers' Hopkins.
Why is it that whenever Kantner does a national game fouling becomes a key factor? 23 fouls called in the 1st half

Tighter game than just about everyone expected. Dawn tightened to a six player rotation, in which Magical MiLaysia was not included. |

Top two scorers for the Gamecocks scored just 6 pts combined, and they still win on the top 25 ranked opponent's home floor in front of a sellout crowd. South Carolina had an off night, but you can't get too unhappy about the results. Hopefully they snap back for Duke Sunday....

Horrible offensive performance by Carolina. They should have won the game as they outplayed SC but couldn't make numerous simple shots.

Not really.
The double technicals came at the 2:09 mark of the 1st Period. UNC held a 17-9 lead at that time. Those opening 7:51 of the game were the ONLY time that UNC "should have won the game". UNC came out very physical looking to push the Gamecocks around - they had 4 fouls called to USC having 5 called on them in the first 2:09.
USC had only 1 assist to 4 turnovers in the first 7:51 - with the majority of those turnovers happening to start the game. UNC had 3 assists to 3 turnovers.
UNC shot 7-13 (.538) from the field, and 2-5 (.400) from the 3, both makes by Lex Donarski. USC shot 4-10 (.400) and 0-2 (.000) respectively.
After the double technicals, USC out-scored UNC 56-41 the rest of the way, shooting 18-46 (.391) from the field and 6-9 (.667) (!!!!) from the 3-pt. line. UNC was held to 14-54 (.259) and 2-16 (.125) (!!!!) respectively.
The Gamecocks cleaned up their ball control a bit too, with 7 assists to 9 turnovers the rest of the way, while UNC had 9 assists to 15 turnovers from that point on.
The Tarheels "outplayed" the Gamecocks for 7:51 to start the game. They out-scored the Gamecocks 19-10, and out-shot them 44.4% to 30.8% in the first period.
After that USC out-scored UNC 16-10, 21-12, and 18-17 the final 3 quarters. They out-shot the Tarheels 37.5% - 22.2%, 41.2% - 33.3%, and 50.0% - 25.0% in each of the final 3 periods. UNC closed the game shooting 1-10. That doesn't meet the definition of "outplaying" the Gamecocks to me.
The Gamecocks were off offensively, but they calmed down after getting punched in the nose early on, and actually imposed their will on UNC defensively. They out-scored UNC the final 3 periods, and pulled away for the win.
The fact that UNC jumped out to a big lead early on in front of a passionate sellout home crowd, made what they did in the first 8 minutes or so of the game seem much bigger throughout the rest of the game, but actually UNC fell behind consistently the rest of the game. The fact that the Gamecocks struggled in making their shots as much as they did offensively prevented them from winning by a larger margin, but the USC-UNC games have typically been tightly contested battles....
