Missouri and NC State in, Texas and Utah out.

1. Tennessee
2. Duke
3. LSU
4. North Carolina
5. Baylor
6. Maryland
7. UConn
8. Ohio State
9. Michigan State
10. Rutgers
11. Depaul
12. Purdue
13. Georgia
14. Stanford
15. Arizona State
16. Oklahoma
17. Minnesota
18. New Mexico
19 Temple
20. Notre Dame
21. Virginia Tech
22. Boston College
23. Vanderbilt
24. Missouri
25. NC State

Temple needs overtime to beat LaSalle and they have the biggest jump in the poll -- five spaces. Wonder where they would be ranked if Dawn Staley wasn't their coach?

Maryland loses big-time at home to Duke and is still ahead of UConn, who actually made it a game against Tennessee @ Tennessee? Hmm.

I am very impressed with DUKE after the win, if they keep playing like that I really see them being the only team to be undefeated at the end of the season, Very Happy

GA up to 13 could move up even further this week Very Happy

It is becoming way to much of a trend to lose in Minneapolis. No one on the Purdue team this year has won there. Nice chance for a statement win on the road.

Me too. Any individual voter who put Maryland ahead of UConn AND Tennessee ahead of Duke voted too hastily. (Esp. since UConn lost in Knoxville; the Terps got demolished at home.)

Maryland stayed closer to Tennessee than UConn did, and stayed closer to Duke than UConn did to UNC.

My guess is voters couldn't figure out what to do with the losses at the top, so they just didn't bother.

UNC is ranked below Duke.

It is not unreasonable to rank Maryland ahead of UConn.

But that was a Maryland team which still had Kalika France, right?

It's not at all unreasonable to rank Maryland ahead of UConn, but given the difference between the way the two games this week looked and felt, and given that Maryland played at home, UConn at UT, one might say that if you rank Maryland above UConn you ought to rank Duke above Tennessee as well.

OTOH Tennessee does have more quality wins than Duke-- both Maryland and UT have beaten Michigan State, and UConn hasn't beaten anyone that good-- so maybe the totality of the schedules does make UT, then Duke, then LSU, then a couple of other teams, then Maryland, then UConn a defensible order.

Boy, did Duke look good yesterday, thought.

I still think Tennessee is #1, UNC is #2, and Duke is #3.

once you get past Duke, Tenn, and LSU, okay, throw in UNC too, it doesn't much matter right now anyway.

I think in most of the teams in that area the end of season product will be different than current.

I think Duke is #1...and quite a few Tennessee fans think so too. However, maybe Duke not being considered #1 will help them in future games. That could always be a motivator for the team.

Baylor lost to an unranked team I thought. Who are their big wins against?

Until Duke beats both Tennessee (Jan.23) and UNC (Jan.29), I'm totally with Camcrz's rankings. UNC's demolition of UConn should have them at #2. But basically I'm just glad that some of the top 4 teams are playing each other to help sort this out before the post season.

The only team they have beaten that is still ranked is Georgia. The only ranked teams remaining on their schedule are Oklahoma and LSU.

If you want to talk about an unproven team that is highly rated, the talk starts and ends with Baylor. If they don't beat LSU, they will have nothing to back up the high rating they will take into the tournament.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/tracy_schultz/01/09/power.rankings/index.html

"Finally, we're seeing the parity that women's basketball coaches have talked about for so long. At least with most teams. Tennessee, LSU, North Carolina and Duke continue to knock off opponents with ease. It's the rest of the field that has made things interesting through the first weeks of conference play. Baylor became the latest of the unbeatens to fall, allowing Duke to move into the top four of our rankings. Baylor was one of 11 teams to change positions this week, including Notre Dame, which dropped out after a loss to Seton Hall. The absence of the Fighting Irish made room for a familiar name, though. Stanford, sitting atop the Pac-10 standings, returns to our top 16 after four straight wins."

With MSU losing to Iowa this is going to be one hell of a basketball game...

That article is pretty biffed up. Numbers 1-8 are for this week, click for the rest and numbers 9-16 are from a month ago. I was wondering how Connecticut could be ranked both fifth and tenth. Very Happy

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/tracy_schultz/01/09/power.rankings/1.html will give you the 1/9/2006 9-16

Stanford #14 and Washington unranked? I just can't see that, even though I like Stanford.
