In addition, the WNBA announced that voting for the 2023 WNBA All-Defensive Teams will be conducted without regard to a player’s position. Prior to this season, voters were required to select two guards, one center and two forwards for both the All-Defensive First Team and Second Team. This same change to positionless voting was implemented last year for the selection of the All-WNBA First Team and Second Team. |

I think the sportsmanship award should be announced earlier and the MVP award should be moved down.

Look for guards to get moved more and more out of the awards.

Yup! The fact that DT and Maya have the same number of MVP's as Nneka Ogwumike and Jonquel Jones, should be a criminal act.

Taurasi is kind of a strange case. As much as it seems like she should have more MVPs, it's a real struggle to find other seasons where she should have won. The years where she put up her best numbers were ones in which the Merc didn't do well. Phoenix never posted a winning record in a season that she averaged over 22 ppg.

LOL! The league wants to expand and those are the players that get a vote for this award? Yikes.

I'm mildly annoyed that Clark got it, even though she was my favorite out of all the players on the ballot, because I thought that she underwhelmed this season, but I'm astonished that Johannès only got one vote!

I agree with you on both parts. I have nothing against Clark but she didn't seem full on CLARK like she was in Seattle. But really, nobody fully stood out as a runaway winner.
Johannes was great off the bench and so was McDonald, so I'm kind of surprised not to see her listed as well. But as I said, there was no clear standout like when Bonner or Hamby won.

You are comparing championship Seattle Clark to the person she is today. Old age and injury has robbed her of being THAT person.

Marine had way too many games where she couldn't hit water falling out of a boat and her defense was... uh... I really don't know what her excuse is, it's the same word in French.

It was definitely a weak year for 6OY. Clark is the lowest scoring winner by almost three ppg. She's only the second winner not to average double digits.

Yeah, there is still a lot of style-over-substance about her game. She didn't last long out there in game 1, and with good reason.
The fun side of her game does make it a little surprising that she didn't get a few more votes, so I get Silky's point. Maybe the voters actually deserve some credit on this one for scratching the surface.
Not really an inspiring field of 6P candidates this season for me.
I'm happy to see Evans recognised with a few votes. She has done well to become a legit rotation player.
Happy for Sami too. She could easily have slid into oblivion after leaving NY but bounced back nicely this year.

"Championship Seattle" Clark? She was underwhelming compared to Mystics Clark!

Well then, I guess I just got super-lucky in my game selection, because every time I watched the Liberty this year, Johannès was getting buckets!

She never won 6OY. Jantel Lavender won in 2016 scoring 9.6 ppg

Does anyone know who votes for MVP? Or if you don't know who has a vote, how many people vote?

Jantel and her king distance two's. If she had stepped back a foot or so and scored that 9.6 ppg average would be closer to 14.4 ppg.

You are totally joking, right? Because Clark played like dog doo doo for the Mystics. Mystics thought they were getting someone close to Brittney Sykes but got "decent defender, can't hit the side of the barn" Clark instead.

Maybe she was a legitimate bench player all year long instead of a bench player who got starter minutes from a starter who got injured (Clark, Carrington).
