Unfortunately, when the Chicago Sun-Times reported that, they didn't give the reason. Probably will never come out either.

I would not be surprised to see Cardoso ask for a trade this season or next either. She is being neglected as an offensive force in favor or forcing the ball to Reese, mostly from Carter. This may get even more pronounced without Chicago having their best assists guard on the roster the rest of the year. The whole Chen and Barbie thing seems to be leaving some of the rest of the team out in the cold. Just my perception.

Just a theory…

There has been a lot of speculation that the owner wants to move or sell the team. He doesn’t have to tank or kill his STH fanbase to do that, though. He could sell tomorrow if he wants. He doesn’t have to justify it to the league by saying his ticket sales are bad. Chicago has always had poor ownership and management. I hope he does sell the team. Let someone with more money actually run the team. I think the league would push hard to keep the team in Chicago, though.

The value of the franchise with the new tv deal has gone from a couple million to 50-60 million easy. Now would be a great time to sell.

No reason to move the franchise -- in fact, I doubt the W would approve it.

The TV deal is based on media market size, and trading Chicago for New Orleans (or anywhere else) makes no sense.

Marina Mabrey isn't a factor in the value of the franchise -- she's a nice player who would get minutes on any team -- so losing her doesn't hurt the big picture. It does make the team less competitive right now, but if Alter plans to sell anyway, a couple more wins (or losses) won't affect the price.

As for why Mabrey left, it's hard not to speculate about the Chennedy Carter factor. She's had trouble with teammates since club ball, and though she seems to be growing up, she and Mabrey are not a match made in heaven.

And Mabrey isn't exactly beloved either, so it makes sense for one to go -- and Mabrey is by far the lesser player. If everyone in the league knew she wanted out, that could explain why the return was so low.

Cardoso is not that type of player nor person . She will be with Chicago .

You are right, there's no need to move the franchise. Not since the W has wanted the Chicago market since Day 1. But think of another possible facet. As I stated, if the Sky were to move to New Orleans, they could have an 'Angel Reese effect' in attendance, because we all know she doesn't fill the Wintrust in Chicago. However, there are two other factors to consider: in New Orleans, there may be a friendly NBA team to connect to and a friendly NBA arena in which to play in.

Neither of which they have in Chicago.

The Sky have played in the Pavilion, the Allstate, and the Wintrust since their debut. Unfortunately, neither the franchise nor the league got what they really wanted. The United Center.

Perhaps, just perhaps, even the mere thought of losing the Chicago market might persuade the league and/or Adam Silver to finally put the screws to the Chicago Bulls and help that franchise join the rest of the 21st Century and relinquish the Center during the summer for the Sky.

Just a thought.

The idea of moving to the Center could explain the recent doubling of future season tickets...

How would that be much different than transferring from Syracuse to USCar to get onto a championship team in college

I was looking forward to Chicago competing for one of the final playoff spots this season. I know they were not a championship quality team but they played competive basketball every game. I also know that Chicago is the worst three point shooting team in the league. Without Mabrey, Chicago three point shooting will become nonexistent. So I will accept them being a lottery team in 2025. 💙

As a Phoenix Mercury fan, I can tell you Chicago got themselves a pretty good shooter..

Dallas has swap rights ownership. But we can still get a lottery pick if Dallas continues to whirlpool into oblivion. 😁

By this, do you mean that you think that the Sky will be picking in the Top 4 in the 2025 WNBA Draft, or that they will be a bottom-four team during the 2025 WNBA season?

Silky, if the Sky have a bad second half of the season and Dallas continues it's downward spiral then the Sky should get one lottery pick next year.

If the Wings owe Chicago a pick then, sure, I guess they'll end up with a lottery pick, but I don't think that Chicago's post-Olympic schedule is going to have much to do with it... Have you seen Atlanta's post-Olympic schedule? They're not leap-frogging the Sky: Chicago leads the series against them, and they don't play the fourth game until the second-to-last game of the season, which basically means that the Dream have to make up four games in the standings to take over the eighth seed from the Sky.

Well, if Atlanta remains lottery bound then Washington will have a giant Kool-aid smile 😃.

Maybe it's a Sky and Wings tank partnership. They will spend their tanks giving together🤝

There is a lion in the house. The Sky have a new mascot now. A female lion. Her name is Skye.

Not a fan of the design and seems like they’re trying to capture the same appeal as Ellie but without the imagination. Bootleg Ellie.

Imitation is fine but damn this looks like zero effort went into it other than “make it female presenting and like that one they got over in NY.” I’m sure the fans will be glad it’s no longer SkyGuy but this looks just as generic as SkyGuy to me.

Someone reported on a Youtube video that the behind the scenes reason Mabrey wanted out of Chicago immediately was that she was slapped by Carter and that Carter was not suspended for it. Although that may have been the reason for the mystery "illness" game she missed where Carter tweeted she was ready and able to play.
