Don't always believe the box score.

I just checked the box score at halftime. Belle Murakatete had an incredible line. She had a basket, a rebound a block and 3 PF, and a +/- of -12, all in 1:01 of playing time. That is one exciting minute.

Checking the play by play it seems her actual playing time is 5:27, but it does make me wonder about the other stats.

My favorite moment with Belle Murakatete was after she had fouled out of the game. About five minutes later, the coach of the Mercury brings her up to the scorer's table to check her into the game. I sit right behind the scorer's table, and I shout at the coach, "Hey, you KNOW that she has fouled out of the game, right?" And he looks at me with this sheepish smile on his face, shrugs and proceeds to try to get her into the game. There is a stoppage of play and a ref is nearby, so I let her know about the fact that Belle had fouled out and she proceeds to tell them that they can't get back into the game. I kinda wish that I had let her enter the game again, because I am pretty sure it would have been a technical. But also because I am curious if the refs would even notice. Smile

Assistants keep track of fouls. Given the rule is the same in both sports, I don’t think the mistake (if it’s true) had anything to do with being a women’s coach now…

I think it’ll take the Merc a minute to gel, but I still think they’ll be a good team. They’re constructed well - though depth could be an issue. But there are important new pieces that need to fit together.

TBH, Nika played pretty well and that’s what I cared about most from this game. Laughing

You pick Nika bc of her defense, passing, and three point shooting - and she did all three.
