To start,

Much better, more consistent officiating

A healthy Paige & Azzi, Miles, Lee, etc.*

At least 2 different teams in the Final Four who weren't there this year

*I initially wrote "a health Paige and Azzi" because, though I'm not a big UConn fan, they've been particular hit by the injury bug this year. I added a couple more players but really I'm looking forward to a healthy everybody next year. No matter which team, I hate seeing players get injured.

Better refs (we can dream!)

Seeing what Coach O’Regan can come up with at JMU to replace Kiki Jefferson and Caroline Germond.

Seeing how Kellie Harper at Tennessee works the transfer portal.

Seeing just exactly how this abbreviated transfer portal is actually going to work, or if the NCAA is going to have to make some tweaks to it.

Are we talking about things we actually think will happen or are we talking about our biggest hopes and dreams? Because the officiating feels like the latter.

Any early rankings?

Guessing LSU starts at #1. UConn should be in the top few. I imagine Virginia Tech, Stanford, Ohio State, Iowa, Louisville will be up there too.

Way too early top 25:

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/36044329/womens-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-2023-24

1. UConn
2. Utah
3. LSU
4. Iowa
5. Indiana
6. UCLA
7. South Carolina
8. Ohio St
9. Stanford
10. Notre Dame
11. Tennessee
12. Maryland
13. Texas
14. Virginia Tech
15. Mississippi
16. Duke
17. Baylor
18. Oregon
19. Florida St
20. Colorado
21. USC
22. Louisville
23. Creighton
24. North Carolina
25. Washington St

My thoughts:

1) 7 from the Pac 12 is crazy (and I am a big Pac 12 fan)
2) South Carolina is still a top 5 team
3) Maryland is still a top 10 team, and better than 4th in the Big 10[/url]

2023-24:

—Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA's first season in the AAC.
—BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF's first season in the Big 12.
—Oklahoma and Texas' last season in the Big 12.
—Campbell's first season in the CAA.
—Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State, and Sam Houston State's first season in Conference USA.
—UCLA and USC's last season in the Pac.
still possibly others' last season in the Pac.
still possibly others' last season in their current conference before joining the Pac.
still possibly the last season of the Pac.

https://medium.com/run-it-back-with-zach/conference-realignment-all-the-moves-coming-in-2022-25-130ef706da55

so this past season was probably the last one that had a sense of conference-related normalcy to it. hope y'all enjoyed it!

We can at least hope and expect that the officials in the biggest game of the year will not undercut one team in favor of the other. The target team (in this case Iowa) was taken completely out of their game. The team getting the benefit of the calls played loose. When that happens, the loose team makes more shots that they usually do while the targeted team misses more than usual, which is exactly what happened.

When one team can smash elbows in the face and not even get the incident reviewed but when an inadvertent elbow contacts the other team, a hissy fit (that doesn't get a Technical) leads to a review and much needed breather for her players sucking wind, it's utterly ridiculous.

These things are inexcusable in the Championship game. Make no mistake, these officials went into the game determined to stop Caitlin Clark - and they pretty much were successful in meeting that goal. And the fact that they carried that prejudice through the entire game and weren't told to stop targeting one player/team needs to not happen again in the title game.

Again I bring up the Duke/Colorado game, which started out similarly but that crap stopped after Q1. In game schooling of officials should happen, especially in the biggest game of the year.

No more dumb ass taunting.

It adds nothing to the game. And it apparently motivated LSU last night because of the way that Iowa (Clark) had taunted SC on Friday.

Better officiating.

Better injury prevention.

What is needed to get better officiating? Is it an experience issue? Is the pool limited? Is it a pay issue?

Tenn loses Walker, Horston, Franklin, Suarez, and Rennie, and (re)gains Key and Wells. Better or worse than they are this year, sans portal?

I know time flies, but it's unfathomable to me that Bueckers, Clark, HVL, Brink, etc. are going to be the senior class next year. They came in after the world shut down for COVID. How on earth has time gone by this fast? It's crazy to me.

As for what I'm looking forward to:

1. Health for all, but especially for UCONN. I don't think I can emotionally handle another year like the last two with the injuries.

2. Who makes the biggest freshman -> sophomore leap.

3. Who is this years Taniya Latson or Aneesa Morrow? The freshman with the least hype who makes the biggest splash.

4. What becomes of Stanford. They'll have a ridiculous front court, but will their guards develop? Can Betts and Brink share the floor?

5. Who wins the ACC. Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and maybe UNC all have a good shot. Could Duke or Florida State sneak in there?

6. I know Iowa is the Clark show, but the most important piece besides her, Monika Czinano is gone. Can O'Grady and Stuelke form a formidable front court?

7. Who wins the transfer portal.

8. Can Cardoso, being out of the shadow of Boston and being the focal point of the SC offense, become the most dominant center in the country? Or will more minutes = foul trouble?

The Gophers improve and not turn the ball over on half of their possessions. A new coach should fix that, I would hope.

An Oregon assistant coach:

Someone with the Belmont program also tweeted something similar around the time their two best players entered the portal:

Not a coaching change, but I do have a question.

Who enters next season on the hot seat?

Nikki Collen at Baylor would be near the top of my list.
Maybe Joni Taylor at A&M, if things don’t get any better there.
Carolyn Kieger at Penn State?
Charmin Smith at Cal?
Scott Rueck at Oregon State?
Amanda Butler at Clemson?
Natasha Adair after an awful showing at ASU?
Kelly Graves at Oregon?
Amy Williams at Nebraska?
Kyra Elzy at Kentucky?
Robin Pingeton at Missouri?

I’m just throwing out names that could maybe make the list. I don’t believe everyone of these coaches should or would be on the hot seat. Who do you believe should be on the hot seat come next season?
