Maybe prioritization is having an effect

It's possible the schedule has changed this year, but the Hungarian finals were done by April 23rd last year. She's be back in the US without even being fined for missing a day of camp, never mind suspended for the year, if that date was repeated.

The rest of their release is pretty much all talking about money issues:
http://www.wb-sopron.com/news/?id=32469

Their roster does not seem like it was as expensive as last season's. Magbegor has no European experience and Sykes was playing in Australia last season as well. Kunek is a pretty solid player, but was slumping pretty hard for most of last season and Stankovic is a solid signing, but she has also not been in form. Williams and Jovanovic had to be on pretty decent money and they budgeted for Peddy and Gaye as well. It sounded like Vandersloot was as much looking for a new experience and a chance to win than just taking the most money on offer.

Is Kayla McBride not returning to Fenerbahce this year?

She is, although sometime later in the season. She was already under contract so it was probably easier for both sides to just modify the terms a little bit. We will have to see if the 35% of Turks around the world forgive her for the EuroLeague Final Four. Their full roster is overkill for the early part of the season now that only three non-Stokes foreigners can play domestic league games. They even have Mina Djordjevic playing for their reserve team in the second division on weekends.

Rae Burrell did not participate in the preseason game for Canberra on Friday, due to injury. Not sure how serious or long-term, but the fact that she is still there and on the bench means maybe it is shorter term.

awhom111, didn't they change the rules a few years back so that once you're actually playing for a national team it locks in your 'official' FIBA nationality? It's just that I wondered how Girona were getting Gardner, Bradford, Tolo and Murphy on the same ELW roster, and apparently Tolo counts as Croatian somehow. Maybe it's different if you actually have the heritage rather than being naturalised at a later date?

They did, but they changed it back when they put in the new naturalized player limits. That's how Katie Lou Samuelson was able to play as European alongside Alarie and Copper last season and how Alice Kunek can play as European with Sykes and Magbegor this season. All that matters now is when citizenship was acquired. The rule change has had other positive effects as now Europeans who qualify for African national teams by heritage can play for those countries without any impact on their club careers.

So can you explain to me like I'm a five year old what the rules/limits are now? Still two non-European per team in European competition, but you get to count as European as long as you acquired the nationality before you turned... something? And I presume it makes absolutely no difference whether every ancestor you've ever had was pure Irish or if you've never visited the random European state that handed you a passport and is paying you lots of money to play for their national team?

Alternatively I'll follow a link if FIBA have actually explained this remotely briefly somewhere...

Any player with proof of citizenship acquisition from a country within FIBA Europe before the grandfathered (grandmothered?) date of March 18, 2019 does not count as non-European regardless of how they acquired citizenship or what national team they represent.

After that date, a player who acquired citizenship from a FIBA Europe country at 16 or later counts as naturalized. In European competition, you can only have one player in this category. A second or third player like this just goes against your regular two non-European player limit.

I guess the regulations are included here:

It's an interesting situation to look out for later when it comes to prioritization.

I have no idea what her immediate heritage is, but with her skills and a surname like Gustafson, I keep expecting to see her pop up on a European national team as well. I'm sure Zahui B would be happy to jack threes and leave the low post stuff to Megan.

I know that Puerto Rico is between the size of Delaware and Connecticut, but an eight game in thirteen day stretch is pretty tough. The first Chinese bubble season seasons were tougher, but that's about it.

FYI, Euroleague Women games start today and the first games tip off at 1PM Eastern on their youtube channel. Here is a link to the schedule:

Quick question: Does anyone know if/where Diamond is playing this offseason?

From the Cukurova(CBK Mersin) web site after todays game, Avenida beating Cukurova 83-66 in Salamanca

Our players Jonquel Jones, Gamze Takmaz, Özge Yavaş Özışık, Temi Fagbenle and Gökşen Fitik and our trainer Hilmi Taşer developed medical complaints such as nausea, fatigue, and vomiting, which are possibly linked to the meals served in the hotel and started to affect the entire team as the game hour approaches in Spain/Salamanca. We arrived in Salamanca two days ago on Monday to get accustomed to the weather conditions and for mental preparation. It is a well-known fact by our supporters that our sole focus is to play the finals in EuroLeague Women with such an ambitious team. We strongly condemn this shady circumstance and call for our Federation to take the necessary action to shed light on the matter.

This was a rough and physical game. The CBK fans are known to be loud and boisterous, and I assume the rematch will be the same. I am guessing Avenida will bring their own food for that trip.

Thanks for the info! I saw the score to that game and given the rosters, could not compute the outcome Confused I thought the main issue was that a number of W players hadn't made it to their teams just yet, but yikes this is terrible. I hope everyone recovers ok.

Fair to say it wouldn't be the first time a Turkish team came up with a questionable excuse for why they played poorly and got blown out...

Note that Cukurova was accused of falsifying a COVID test result on Gernika's team that forced their captain to miss the second leg of their EuroCup knockout round matchup.

FIBA's issues with the Bourges-Olympiacos stats gave us a glimpse behind the curtain that allowed us to see the reported attendance for EuroLeague this week.
