Terrible news for the Mystics. Middle Eastern theocrats are not known for their support of women's sports.

No controlling interest whatsoever! That's good.
Good investment.

PEACE & LOVE GO MYSTICS!!!!!

Abby was just standing in the corner on offense a lot of time of the few minutes she played. I realize that she was only signed because of the injury to Li and Kristi. I don't see her playing much this year and don't see her in the league after this year.

What we want is for the league to get an influx of cash from some ethical billionaires, like...

Well...

Uhm...

... I may need a minute.

...and it's only a foot in the door. Stay tuned for more investments and buyouts down the road. Qatar could buy out the entire NBA and WNBA and not even feel a twitch in their wallet.

So you're saying that Cathy is about to have the league out here like:

Per Kareem Copeland Washington Post:

Mystics center Shakira Austin had an MRI yesterday and will miss at least three weeks with a hip strain. No type of surgery required.

I am pleasantly surprised that that turned out to only be a hip strain.

I am slightly skeptical, but pleasantly surprised.

+1. She was visibly clutching the back of her leg, so I thought (at best) she tore her hamstring. How this is a hip injury I don't quite understand. So... also highly skeptical but pleasantly surprised.

Mystics sign Linnae Harper to a hardship contract.

Given that this is (presumably) to replace Austin, I'm surprised to see a guard. Starting to wondering if the Abby Meyers and Harper signings mean we won't see Toliver for the rest of the year. Also would have preferred someone younger who could potentially develop. Shrug.

It's a WIN WIN! We lose the non contributing Zahui B and gain Queen Egbo, who has shown she can play post in this league. I wonder if Egbo was unhappy with her reduced minutes, playing behind Boston. Have to say I was surprised by how well she did last season. playing alongside Baylor teammate NaLyssa Smith and hope she contribute more than Zahui B was able to. I think we showed that throwing forwards into the center spot in Shakira's absence does nothing but decrease their effectiveness.

Unless there's something we don't know about Egbo, this is a lopsided trade. Nothing but upside for the Mystics.

does this mean they don't really expect Austin back in a couple of weeks?

They always said out at least three weeks, then reevaluated to determine her timeline. So always a distinct likelihood it would be longer.

Cyesha has done well coming in completely cold to WNBA play. But, seriously has any other team tried to compete with only 7 players chosen for the team - including the 2 tallest players and 3 World/Olympians? Can you imagine Houston without their center and 2 of Cooper, Swoopes and Thompson? Or Minnesota without Fowles and 2 of Augustus, Brunson or Moore?

The Mystics will get at least 3 injured players back in time for the end stretch and playoffs and the motley crew has managed to stay in a playoff spot without them. As much as we need EDD and Shakira both back, getting Ariel back is desperate as Tash and Slim are running on fumes at this point, having to carry the bulk of the scoring and ball handling.

Positive sign is all 3 are going on this road trip and back up Abby has been let go. Hope Hope Hope that means Ariel is ready to play!

People like Taurasi make her think she still might have what it takes to play.

Toliver has never, ever been on the level of Taurasi.
