The Mystics are up against the salary cap for a[n] 11 player roster. I believe Mike T did his best to get a big body veteran at minimum salary to be a backup for Shakira Austin. Remember, the Mystics aren't asking Amanda Zahui B to be a starter, Mike T just want[s] her to be a back-up to give [Shakira] Austin 10 to 16 minutes rest a game.

So then is he gonna ask Hines-Allen, who's scheduled to make $175k this year, to be a starter?

I figure someone will bring up Hines-Allen, I will trade her in a heartbeat if given the opportunity.

That is who I would give up. There are plenty of teams where she could flourish, but what could we get for her?

"28-year-old Meng (6-0, 198)"

Highly doubt she weighs 198 if she is 6'0". Chelsea Gray is listed 5'11" 170 pounds.

I doubt Li Meng is 198 LBs but she's not skinny. I hope Li Meng makes the Mystics team, she's a shooter unlike Machida.

I've been waiting for the email and also checking their site. They haven't released single ticket sales yet, just the special packages.

I am shocked Mike T hasn't traded away pick #4 since none of the players are a direct match for what the Mystics need. I expect Horston to be gone at pick 3. Need 3 pt shooters. Maybe Mike has spotted a player he likes and will get the steal of the draft, like he has several other times. Cloud was a 2nd round pick and someone nobody had on their projections.

Also - any reports on how Christyn Williams' recovery is going? If she's been able to make her 3 pt shot more consistent than it was in college, she could make this squad.

Ashley Joens was a popular pick for this team last year before she announced she'd go back for a 5th season. with a continued need for a shooter on the wing, why not actually pick her this time?

With so many of the top prospects electing to take an extra year, combined with it being a relatively weak draft beyond the top two or three, I'm not sure what value Mike could get in return for the fourth pick.

At #4?

well who had the Mystics taking Ariel Atkins at #7 in 2018 or Ally Malott at #8 in 2015? this is a team that has the potential to make a surprise selection when there’s no obvious projected pick. Joens is probably a SF in the W, and she’s used to putting up 3s – two things the Mystics need. though she’s only an average shooter (career 35%er), she’s better than most of the other SF-types in this draft in that category.

i think people forget that most of these rookies aren’t gonna be asked to do too much, considering they’ll be coming off the bench if they even manage to make their roster & snag a spot in the rotation. and Joens likely wouldn’t be taking more than a few shots per game – the selectiveness could help with her numbers.

you’re welcome to spout out any better ideas. it really is all a crapshoot after Boston at #1, and like i said, people including me have thought since last year now that Joens would be a fit here. i wouldn’t be surprised either way.

I could totally see Joens at 4

I believe Mike T scouted her last year and I could see her as a good fit in Washington in that 10 th or 11th roster spot.

As the group of sfs projected to go early mid first round I think Joens has a lower ceiling but higher floor than most

I could also see Jones as a defensive specialist off the bench or Siegrist to learn as an offensive 4/3 off the bench behind EDD and MHA or scooping up a falling Diamond or Horston

If Washington decides to do a curve ball pick I don’t think any of the wings in question are that out of the box now Cooke , Berger, Miksell, Meyers, or Lopez-Senechel would be more of a Washington head scratcher that still seems on brand

Horston seems like the best fit for this team, but will likely be gone at #3. I'm open to finding a way to get to #3 or out of lottery altogether. Now, if Haley Jones is spending every waking minute with the shot gun, we could use her ball handling and passing skills, though she's certainly not bringing the ball downcourt in the WNBA, so she's not a back up to the back up PG.

The Mystics should draft Stephanie Soares if there's no Diamond.

Haley needs more than just repetition. She needs a shooting coach to change her shooting motion. I think she would be dedicated to fixing it and work hard at it if someone would show her how. Her shot is just too flat and with little rotation. I've been puzzled why someone hasn't worked with her at Stanford, since she doesn't look hopeless. But it's also possible she has just been so focused on academics, and she's been successful in college without really developing her shot, that work on it got put off. Hopefully now she can/will focus on it since it will be her job!

The Mystics don't usually draft Pac 10 Players, last one I can remember was Nikki Blue
