Massey is not really too good right now, but it's starting to make some sense. Here are Massey's lines and which team is favored:

Wednesday, December 1
Rutgers at Pittsburgh -5.5
Nebraska -3.5 at Wake Forest
Georgia Tech -5.5 at Purdue
Virginia Tech -15.5 at Wisconsin
#18 Ohio State -8.5 at Syracuse
North Carolina -12.5 at Minnesota

Thursday, December 2
#24 Notre Dame -6.5 at Michigan State
Penn State at Boston College -6.5
#2 NC State -5.5 at #6 Indiana
#12 Michigan at #10 Louisville -9.5
Miami at #8 Maryland -15.5
#25 Florida State -8.5 at Illinois
Northwestern -3.5 at Clemson
#9 Iowa -0.5 at Duke

So going by Massey, the ACC will win 9-5. Looking deeper into the data (not that these preliminary data warrant it), the only games with a line under 5 points are all games where the B1G is projected to win, suggesting the record could possibly favor the ACC by more than the 9-5 margin.

By the way, checking Massey for the B12/SEC challenge predicts B12 by a 7-3 margin. I don't actually believe that the B12 is THAT good, but the matchups (plus the SEC teams that aren't competing in the challenge) almost seem to be 'gerrymandered' to favor the B12. (I don't actually believe that there was any intent to aid the B12.)

A couple of months ago, I would have thought the B1G had a good chance this year. After the last week or so of results, I don’t think so….

Why are all of the really good games on tomorrow? The ones with ranked teams are mostly on the same day. That doesn't seem like great planning or insight from league officials about the state of women's basketball in their leagues.

ESPN cherry picked the two prize games and put them both on Thursday (and at the same time - shows how much they care Sad )

Beyond that, I expect GaT - Purdue to be one of the best matchups of two competitive teams, and WF - Neb is a match up of two undefeated teams, both trying to prove to the world they're legit - good match up again. Both of these are tonight.

Some of the games involving a ranked team may not be particularly good matchups.

GaTech and Ohio St could have won tonight if they ever bothered to practice shooting free throws.

Free throws matter. 55 or 57 percent from the line is not a recipe for success.

On the flip side, Syracuse hit a very impressive 87.5 (21-24) from the line.

Every result has surprised me so far -- either the winner of the game, the margin of victory... or both.

I get that! Cool But when I do my own *whip-around* coverage, it all starts to melt together. Razz

I'm hoping the NC State-IN & MI-L'ville games are as interesting as their rankings might promise. And I also hope the Iowa-Duke exceeds ranking expectations.

UVA is not playing? Are they no longer in the ACC? Laughing They should have matched them with Wisconsin...at least one of those hapless programs could have gotten a win.

Virginia was odd-team out ... 15 ACC/14 Big Ten, so they were lowest NET.

Didn't you hear? We're doing promotion/relegation now. They'll be taking JMU's place in the CAA. Wink

(In all seriousness, thefutureisbright brought up the difference in number of conference members, and these challenges don't always include every team in the conference anyway; for example, on the men's side, the Gavitt Games, which is a Big Ten-Big East challenge, only has eight games despite both conferences having more than eight teams.)

What a beating the Big is taking today. ACC 4-0, and leading or tied halfway through three others, with one game yet to start.

And Michigan - one of the league's stars- got completely embarrassed by Louisville.
