Lynx backcourt thin with loss of guard Renee Montgomery in free agency to the Atlanta Dream
http://www.startribune.com/lynx-backcourt-thin-with-loss-of-guard-renee-montgomery-in-free-agency-to-the-atlanta-dream/472171283/

Montgomery's move to the Dream and the retirement of Jia Perkins means Lynx coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve will need to replace her entire backup backcourt for the upcoming season, when Minnesota will try to repeat as league champions. |
This would seem to make Perkins’ retirement official.
Quote: |
Reeve said Montgomery's big personality and veteran savvy will be missed. Montgomery, a West Virginia native who owns a home in Atlanta, wanted to play in a city closer to her family. |
I hope this doesn’t become a trend.
Quote: |
"She can play both [guard] positions," Reeve said of Jones. "I'm excited for A.J. And she's excited. But I think she'll need help. Renee brought to the table a huge personality, a winners mentality. She knew what it took to win." |
Quote: |
Reeve would like to solve the team's need at guard before the draft. |
Hmmm....

That market might make re-signing free agent forward Natasha Howard more of a challenge. |
WHAT?!

Surely the Lynx will get something for Howard? First round pick? Chicago needs a PF that can start, they don't seem to want Deshields!!

So the Lynx could afford Jia Perkins being their highest-paid player last year, but now that she's retired, they can't afford to keep anybody? 🤔

I hope that was just author’s opinion. Maybe he’s not good with math.
If Reeve can’t hold onto Howard, her first year at GM is starting to look like a disaster. I’ll keep the faith for now.

Chicago seems like a good choice for Howard. She'd start there and the PF spot without Breland now is wide open. Howard for Faulkner?

Well, I'm also convinced McCowan enters the draft and Chicago takes Mitchell & Williams. Faulkner for Howard seems like a solid deal.
PG: Vandersloot/Mitchell
SG: Quigley/Copper
SF: GWiliams/Hooper
PF: Howard/Bulgak
C: Dolson/Coates/Parker

Just feels right. Even at the chance she might go #1. McGowan & Harrison up front for the Aces would be scary.

If Perkins is announcing her retirement tomorrow, Lynx should have cap space for 12 players this season.
PG: Whalen/Jones/Cruz?
SG: Augustus/draft pick
SF: Moore/Zandalasini
PF: Brunson/Little/Jackson-Jones
C: Fowles/Fagbenle

I wonder if they're thinking about bringing back Cruz and signing a FA guard? Or just drafting a guard with their pick?
PG: Whalen/Jones/Cruz or draft pick
SG: Augustus/free agent
SF: Moore/Zandalasini
PF: Brunson/Jackson-Jones
C: Fowles/Kizer/Fagbenle
