Man dies after ingesting chloroquine in an attempt to prevent coronavirus
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1167166

Quote:
The toxic ingredient they consumed was not the medication form of chloroquine, used to treat malaria in humans. Instead, it was an ingredient listed on a parasite treatment for fish.

The man's wife told NBC News she'd watched televised briefings during which President Trump talked about the potential benefits of chloroquine. Even though no drugs are approved to prevent or treat COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, some early research suggests it may be useful as a therapy.

This illustrates why Trump has to be careful about touting miracle cures on television. His base tends to be no smarter than he is.

“Parasite treatment for fish? I think it’s worth a shot. What have we got to lose?” sounds like something Trump would say.

This is kind of misleading. While what Trump did was wildly irresponsible and misleading, these people ingested chloroquine phosphate (which the article states is fish tank cleaner), not hydroxychloriquine. He shouldn't have touted it, but this isn't the same drug at all.

**I'm guessing that the spelling of hydroxychloroquine as hydroxychloriquine above is a typo. I looked it up and could not find anything with the "i" spelling. I was always redirected to the "o" spelling.

From the CDC:
Quote:
Hydroxychloroquine (also known as hydroxychloroquine sulfate) is an arthritis medicine that also can be used to prevent malaria. It is available in the United States by prescription only. It is sold under the brand name Plaquenil and it is also sold as a generic medicine. It is available in tablets of 155mg base (200mg salt).
You should know that the 155mg base tablet is the same as the 200mg salt tablet. It is just two different ways of describing the same thing.
Hydroxychloroquine can be prescribed for either prevention or treatment of malaria. This fact sheet provides information about its use for the prevention of malaria infection associated with travel

Chloroquine (also known as chloroquine phosphate) is an antimalarial medicine. It is available in the United States by prescription only. It is sold under the brand name Aralen, and it is also sold as a generic medicine. It is available in tablets of two sizes: 150mg base (250mg salt) and 300mg base (500mg salt).
You should know that the 150mg base tablet is the same as the 250mg salt tablet and the 300mg base tablet is the same as the 500mg salt tablet. It is just two different ways of describing the same thing.
Chloroquine can be prescribed for either prevention or treatment of malaria. This fact sheet provides information about its use for the prevention of malaria infection associated with travel.

he's so worried about going into a recession during his time he'd rather sacrifice the American people to boost the economy. He's really clueless about what's going on. Thank goodness I have Gov. Cuomo to listen to every day.

Quite a lengthy article that covers these steps.

• Scientists must be heard
• Stop transmission between cities
• Stop transmission within cities
• Fix the testing mess
• Isolate the infected
• Find the fevers
• Make masks ubiquitous
• Preserve vital services
• Produce ventilators and oxygen
• Retrofit hospitals
• Decide when to close schools
• Recruit volunteers
• Prioritize the treatments
• Find a vaccine
• Reach out to other nations

What restrictions has Trump instituted (other than non-Americans flying in from China and Europe) that he could release? Seems like the restrictions are state and local. Unless the idea is that he would try and override them.

I'm not a Matt Gaetz fan, but he does make sense here.

Every one of those senators that sold stock based on early COVID -19 briefings needs to be kicked out of the senate, prosecuted, made to donate any profits to gpark33's foundation and jailed. Even DF.

Quote:
“.@KatieHill4CA gets run out of Congress for screwing a campaign staffer absent any complaint,” Gaetz tweeted. “@SenatorBurr stays as Intelligence Chairman after screwing all Americans by falsely reassuring us w opeds on #COVID while he dumped his stock portfolio early. This is not fair.”

Reps are ok/eager to dump Burr due to NC's Rep written rules about how the new Senator is appointed. Reps give list to Gov of three people. He can choose which of these three to appoint. In two years, when that seat is up for election, that person is now an incumbent Senator, giving them the advantage against the Dem candidate.

Good point. He came up with a list of "recommendations" such as no gatherings more than 10, not restrictions. He closed the borders. Everything else has been done by state and local authorities with no apparent consistent pattern even within states. I suppose he could order state and local communities to stop their restrictions, but I'm not sure that would stick.

Looks like abortion battles are gearing up in Texas as the Attorney General deemed abortion as an unnecessary elective surgery that won’t be allowed during the pandemic.

Besides the specific abortion issues, how is the AG deemed competent to decide what constitutes unnecessary or elective surgery? I can't see where he went to medical school or received his surgical training.

It's absolutely elective. We've been told over and over it's a matter of choice.

Time to shut down all/most healthcare then since you have to elect to receive it (unless you're unconscious or someone whose parent/guardian is forcing you).

Again, besides the specific abortion question, should the AG be allowed to decide when when gallbladder or open heart surgery is elective? He probably doesn't know what 95% of the procedures listed on a typical OR schedule even mean. This issue extends beyond abortion.

so i turn on the tv after a long break, and cnn is telling me that trump is pissed at gov. cuomo, he has scrapped the WH briefing - no briefing, and certainly no dr. fauci, whose days must now be numbered - and instead did a two-hour "town hall" on fox that was not based in reality (according to cnn). what. the. fuck. says he wants "us" up and running by easter. no, mofo. YOU go out there - preferably times square - and get up and running. we'll be along shortly.

after that, on cnn, they're showing italians going off on their countrypeople for violating the quarantine. like women having someone come to their house to do their hair. "what is the purpose of a hairstyle at this moment?!" and some govt official, i think: "you're not will smith in 'i am legend.' go home!"

apparently, gov. cuomo asked what he's gonna do with the 400 ventilators tripe sent him. "what are we gonna do with 400 ventilators, when we need 30,000?" then he suggested that tripe pick the people who would die.

He's so delusional it's unreal. His ego and protecting his image of this great economy we were in is starting to unravel. He can't bare the thought of being in a recession while he's in office. He'd rather have thousands die than go into a recession.

we're not only in the twilight zone. we're in hell of the twilight zone. it's time for the 25th amendment, though mike penance is only slightly less scary.

except for a few "features," no one has really talked about these deaths as the lives of real people. real people who had loved ones and families. trump only talked about "american workers."

We all know the old (and probably untrue) image of Nero fiddling away while Rome burnt around him. Trump is clearly cut of the same *cloth*, so to speak: general disregard for anything that isn't about Him and Promoting His Stellar Leadership. He can't stand anything but "Yes Men" around him, and we'll see those conflicts play out, one after the other.

The thing about abortions is that it’s not exactly a huge burden on resources. It’s done in clinics on an outpatient basis. Seems like politicians are taking advantage of the pandemic to push their agendas (abortion, border crossings, etc).

Heh. It's amazing the contrast from when I listen to Trump and when I listen to Governor Tim Walz. Walz, even while quarantined, just radiates an aura of calm composure and competence. Even when what he is saying is stark and concerning (like he expects as many as 80% of Minnesotans to eventually come down with COVID-19), his demeanor instills me with confidence.

Trump's press conferences are the polar opposite. He is all over the place and his transparent attempts to paint a rosy picture just scare the crap out of me.

This should be a lesson to us all when we vote for presidents. The attribute of being "presidential" is of paramount importance. Just having a president who shares your ideology is not enough. While a president who is not a great leader can fake it enough to get through every day business, when a crisis hits the piper is suddenly having to be paid.
