Sorry - I wasn't trying to cause problems. I apologize if it seemed like I was.
And, FWIW, I like the Sparks. Always have. The ridiculous attacks on Parker in these parts is largely what turned me into a fan of hers. |
It's no biggie. This situation didn't exactly come out of nowhere, but I did not expect it to even come close to panning out. I suppose we have to sit tight and see actually results. Maybe Tina merely bought a beach house in LA. ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
Louisiana? Cause she'd have to be winning at Powerball, not basketball, to buy a beach house in Los Angeles._________________ Every woman who has ever been presented with a career/sex quid pro quo in the entertainment industry should come forward and simply say, “Me, too.” - jammer The New York Times 10/10/17 |

If I was Conn, I would ask probably ask for Nneka and Toliver and then potentially move from there. Or maybe it would be that or nothing. |
I'm still sticking with that one. If the Sparks land Tina Charles for anything less than these two very first rate (in the case of Nneka) but not ever MVP quality players, then they have pulled of in my opinion a steal of a trade. But if it's those two I say it's worth it for the Sparks to both land a premier center with LA's Phoenix problem facing them for years, and to solve the various Toliver problems of size, utilization, attitude, etc. The Sparks, in my opinion, are a team with damned good materials to deal with. If you're going to make a move, now's the time. When you start thinking of people playing out of position because you have two true fours and no superstar center and you can fix that... or two similarly undersized guards in the backcourt, totally acceptable from the point guard position and especially so with a dandy like Harding... but a real liablity against the kind of length they face against the Lynx and Mercury...why?
But any trade that lands Charles and doesn't involve Nneka? lol. Wow. I'll believe that one when I see it. |
If we give up Kristi, we could use a reliable shooter from downtown with size and defensive skills. Wait a minute---that's what we drafted A'dia for! We also could use someone who can slide into the #3 spot and be effective offensively and defensively. We really can use an extra big. Four bigs are not a lot when you need bodies to throw at Liz and Britt.

Wel, as a Sky fan, I can speak from experience. If someone is that much of a malcontent, they can go where they want for peanuts.
Well, less than peanuts. If they had gotten peanuts, we could have gotten some at the games.

If CT really is letting Sienko trade Charles, then I am disappointed. If this trade is going to happen, you need to fire and replace Sienko first.
Why trust the GM who put together the Sun's terrible roster in the first place to deal what is potentially the most valuable piece the franchise has ever had?

It's all speculation based on Tina's tweets, indiscreet as they may be. Nothing is official or even truly public yet. The Sparks needed a Lisa replacement for a long time. and Tina has been expressive of her discontent in Sun-land.

So if Charles goes to LA, will the offense change so that a play is occasionally run for a post player other than CP? They never did for Nneka or DMJ.

Both teams could try to fix other personality issues and make it Charles+Lawson for Nneka+Toliver.
Although honestly, I don't see Charles straight up for Nneka as being quite as lopsided as some seem to. Based on the 2013 season, for example, I'd rather have Nneka. |
I'd have to agree. Charles turned into a jump shooter and lost a lot of her aggressiveness in the paint. BUT...small samples. And possibly a coaching issue as well.

Nneka seemed like the perfect sidekick for CP3. Did all the cleanup work and got results without needing anything run for her. You don't recruit a Tina Charles with the intention of just having her play that same role. It'll be interesting to see how that works if this trade eventuates. Two seriously good players, but I think there's potential for the dynamic not to work too well if the attitudes aren't in sync.

I'm assuming that's why there's a question mark.

Will be interesting to see if this happens. trading a popular UConn player who was going to be the franchise player of the Sun.
We are where we are. yet I wonder if coach Mike stayed or AD was let go if this thread would even exist.
I give some credit for trying to do something. if it puts us on the winning track that is good. yet will it put more fans in the seats or will we continue our downward move in attendance. |

So the real question remains - why all the discontent in Sun-land? Might be wiser to address that problem, whatever the cause might be. (After all - there are two other players who seem to feel the same way.)

Let's remember, this is hardly the beginning of Sun discontent. Every major player of those Sun teams that went to the Finals except Jones has wanted out.

Shockingly, many players don't like spending their summer out in the middle of nowhere with the only entertainment being a casino where they're not allowed to gamble.

They didn't mind as much when Thibault was coaching.

I agree.
First Mike is gone, now they aren't even going to try and work with their MVP?
Did she act like a spoiled brat last season? Yea. Did she have a bit of a point? Yes. Was she the only player unhappy? No.
The Sun are really screwing themselves over..

People wanted out all the time when he was coaching. The whole core of the 2004-05 team that made back-to-back finals either demanded a trade or quit the WNBA altogether. McWilliams, Whalen, Sales, Douglas, and Dydek were the starters in 2005 and every one of them either "retired" prematurely or was traded away at their own request.
