RHYNE HOWARD STRUGGLED TO SCORE IN FRONT OF WNBA SCOUTS.
The focus is seemingly always on Howard when Kentucky plays, but on Sunday the eyes watching the projected No. 1 pick in next year’s WNBA Draft included some of the teams hoping to select Howard. Media seating featured five representatives from the Indiana Fever, the WNBA team with the best odds to pick first in the 2022 WNBA Draft, which will take place in April. The Connecticut Sun also had a representative watching Howard play. Similar to Thursday’s game against DePaul, Benton shouldered a lot of the scoring load for Kentucky while Howard struggled to put the ball in the basket. Howard finished Sunday’s game with just nine points, going 3-for-13 from the field, along with seven rebounds and two assists. Louisville stuck to Howard like glue defensively, with Howard unable to create much separation whenever she tried to get to her spot on the floor. “That’s why you play a team sport and there’s five people on the court,” Elzy said. “Obviously, Rhyne is a very talented player but she’s never been able to do it by herself and she has a supporting cast that can step up.” “Credit to Rhyne, even though she wasn’t scoring like she’s accustomed to, her defensive intensity, her leadership in the huddle, being able to talk to people and rebound the basketball is a big step forward.” |

The Sun’s best pick is #12. Since the Sun seem interested in Howard, any chance they’re looking to trade a reasonably priced BJones to whatever team is willing to trade that top pick? What’s common among the lottery teams is a lack of solid post play.
If the Sun max out JJones, seems like something has to give. JThomas is a tougher sell at 190K and a lesser needed position among the lottery teams.

Is she really taller than 6'2"? Suddenly she's now 6'4"? I guess she could grow 2" in college, but....I'd like to see her side by side with Hillmon. Of course Hillmon is probably not 6'2" even.
This list of 'top' picks doesn't really inspire me all that much.

I thought 6-2 looked like it might be rather generous for Hillmon when I saw her play the other week. She also had a dreadful game and looked like she'd be lucky to make a roster in Finland, but based on the numbers I have to presume that was a bad night. |

Loving the potential of Henderson with the Sky. Would be a good choice.
Honestly, I would put Joens higher. I know bigs are usually more popular but she is pro ready and I think will have a great career.

There are only a few players that I like in this draft. The players that I like will get drafted with the lottery picks. The only thing that will make this draft interesting is if a few draft eligible juniors declare for this draft. Otherwise the 2022 draft class is really not any better than the 2021 draft class.🤨

The 2022 draft is better than 2021.
We're past the point of even a great rookie coming in and dominating. The league is too good for that. That makes today's rookies seem inferior to those from the early days.

I do think 2022 is better than 2021 but not by as much as I would like to see.

I always think active, high energy but undersized posts without an outside shot have an upside potential of something like Rebecca Brunson. And we've been moving away from those type of 4s. Everybody seems to want a four who can shoot threes rather than a solid rebounder. How many 6'2" posts without an outside shot are in the league these days?

100% . She's a Top 4 talent in this draft. That being said, if she did fall to 9 and wound up in Seattle, I would be VERY happy. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she ended up being better than Samuelson.

The true value of rookies in today's league is their cheap unguaranteed contracts.

I would prefer that the Sky trade their 2022 first round pick for a 2023 first round pick if possible. I would value two first round picks from this draft more. The Sky can fill out their 2022 roster with some waiver scraps at a cheaper price point.

Yeah, I don’t know who Indians pissed off, and how Washington got so lucky here.

Worst case scenario. #1 goes to the team with the most talent of the 4 and that is in the lottery only due to injuries and absences.
