In Cooper’s case, I’ll be surprised if she isn’t Reserved(like Richyyy alluded to with his free agent list), which would mean she would have to take whatever the Sparks give her. |
As a reserved player she can still negotiate for more money, she doesn’t have to settle for the Sparks initial offer.

Absolutely, but with a team that’s got a lot of people to take care of, I don’t see the negotiations being relatively long in Cooper’s case._________________

True, but considering how she played this season and the rest of their bench, I’d rather give her a little bit more than bring back some of the other players currently on the bench.

If everyone wants to come back and wants what they'd get on the open market? Dear god no.
You didn't even mention Riquna Williams or Seimone Augustus. |

Augustus is interesting cuz she had a bounceback season from last year, but in limited fashion - so counting all those superstar years, god knows what she'll be worth in free agency. Ditto Riquna Williams, but for possibly, umm, different reasons. (we all know she knows how to fire at will)

Already signed. One of the moves Wade seems to have gotten right.

I could see BayBay playing for Big Bill - aside from the alliteration.

Hollywood Liz may be way too much of a drama queen ... even for Hollywood! |

Prime candidate to be cored though, unless Vegas are confident she's going to stay anyway (in which case they might well core McBride instead). |

She’s not worth coring. I was thinking she might head to a bench role next year.

She didn’t even have that bad of a year this year. Everyone who showed up to the wubble not in shape (who hadn’t previously shown up to a camp out of shape) should get a pass because of the most unusual circumstances that prevented them from staying in shape. A team like the Aces need more shooters in their starting lineup like McBride - otherwise, players like January and J. Thomas would have even less to do on the defensive end against them.

I liked what saw from Cooper esp her defense & want her on the team again next season. With Sykes I really don’t see a reason for TRP to still be on the team.Brittney is just as good as TRP on defense & brings more offense. I’m not sure if Williams is a FA but with Toliver being back next season I see no reason to keep her. But than again Imma be honest I’m not a fan of her game. Weise really came into her own this season & I know defense isn’t what she is know for but I saw improvement in that arena. Some defense plays I saw were from her were impressive. As so as she became a starter LA started winning.
Kristine & Marie gave good mins in limited roles. If VanVeeva & Chiney play next season L.A would be stronger in the post. That what I feel L.A. missed most this season.

The Cambage poaching crossed my mind
Here is a different out of the box idea
Nneka pulls a Bonner and unexpectedly wants to leave
LA tries to help her out and themselves by arranging the same sort of UFA super max sign and trade then
Nneka Ogwumike for D Deshields
Nneka makes Chicago a contender and the emergence of Copper makes trading Diamond possible
Diamond gives LA a great small forward and frees up money to fill out roster
LA can then try and poach Ch. Parker or Cambage in a crazy world
Gray/cooper
TOliver/Sykes
Deshields/Wise
Parker/Vadeeva
Ch. Parker (or Cambage)/Anigwe
Ulich or first round draft pick or both if the Deshields move along with not bringing back Chiney, Williams and August's saves enough money for the 12th spot
Chicago
Sloot/ St. Johnson
Quigley/A. Prince/1st round draft pick
Copper/ Williams
N. Ogwumike/ Stevens/Mavunga
DOlson/Heabard

Do you or anyone else think she'll ever try to take a year off? Maybe not in 2021 but eventually? She can't possibly continue playing year-round without a break somewhere, not if her back and possibly her migraines are becoming recurring issues. (I feel like we've heard about her getting migraines before this season.) But also, she's the WNBPA President – whatever that would actually mean if she were to choose to sit out a season.

Maria "Masha" Vadeeva is the missing piece, the Anointed One, the Messiah. Get her back into the LA fold at all costs and give her extra minutes.

So LA should use their core designation not on the one (between Gray and Ogwumike) they want to keep between Gray and N. Ogwumike but on the one they would want to trade and that would be willing to be traded so they can get assets in return rather than just lose one of the big three for nothing. (This is even worse than the Howard situation in Seattle, some team with a lot of cap space is likely going to get Gray or N. Ogwumike if they are willing to cough up some picks and/or decent young player/s.)
Then Parker and one of Nneka or Chelsea get the super max and the other one is traded for a combination of rookie level contracts and picks freeing up enough money for LA to resign Sykes, and a couple of other non max deals.
Toliver/Cooper
Weise
Sykes
Vadeeva/Anigwe
Parker
4 or 5 spots left for
who ever is left between Gray and Ogwumike, what they get in return for whoever they trade between Gray or Ogwumike, pick 10, other possible signing
NY could offer Durr and lottery pick
Dallas could offer lottery pick and pick 5 or 7 (or instead of two picks lottery pick and throw in Alarie, Harris or KLS)
Indy could offer lottery pick and cox
Atl could offer lottery pick and Billing (or maybe even Hayes since she is still on old CBA contract)
Gray or N. Ogwumike would really move the needle for those teams
if it was for Gray Minn could offer Dangerfields and pick 9
if it was for Nneka LV could offer J. Young and pick 12 or their 1st round pick in 22 (this would probably work for Gray as well, LV might have to let McBride walk or try a sign and trade because a C. Gray/K. Plum back-court is intriguing).
I don't know if the math works but Chicago could probably offer Deshields for Nneka maybe even straight up or Gabby and pick 6
PS I think most of these trades offers could be made for Howard as well if the Storm wanted to have money for others and max out Stewart next season, but that is for Seattle thread

Just to be 100% accurate, I didn't actually write the bit you've attributed to me there. Everything under 'Salary Cap Situation' down to (and including) '2021 Roster and Cap Summary' is me; the 2020 Synopsis and Looking to 2021 bits are the other authors.
If you read the bit by me higher up, I actually show how they could keep Parker, N.Ogwumike and Gray but won't have a lot left for anyone else. |

Love this!!
Does anyone think Iagupova will ever make it over to the States? She would definitely help with LA's cap and wing issues and starting is off the season killing it again in Turkey!
