Nurse & Atkins have surprised me. Jamie Nared & Ji-Su Park have shown promise. No third rounders are currently on a roster. IMO, Lexie Brown has been the bust of the draft.

Nurse hasn’t surprised me at all. Aside from a few good shooting games she’s been boring. She benefited early on with lots of minutes.

Lexie Brown hasn’t been a bust at all. She just landed on a team that didn’t need her to begin with, and a team that really doesn’t need her now. If CT had drafted Nurse and NY had drafted Brown, it would be Brown getting a lot more minutes and showing some flashes of greatness and Nurse would be sitting on the bench in CT, keeping it warm for all the guards ahead of her.

10th overall picks don’t typically come in and dominate right away, let alone drop 34 and 25 in any single games. If they were thought to be immediately dominant they wouldn’t have been picked tenth. Katie Douglas took about 5 or 6 years to average 16 a game and I’d say Nurse physically profiles favorably to Katie Douglas. Similar in the sense that she’s not a quick penetrator but can still do it using strength, length and angles. Similar in that she also has a good step-back jumper. And definitely a better shooter and better foot speed. Probably also profiles as a better defender long-term due to the longer strides and more explosive lateral movement. Taking nothing away from the greatness of Douglas but if you compare both players as rookies, Nurse’s rookie year definitely merits an edge

Getting players like Atkins 7 and Nurse 10 are great pickups relative to draft position. There’s plenty of years where picks 7 and/or 10 are barely impactful. Occasionally they’re off rosters in two years or less.

Barring injury, Atkins and Nurse are going to play for a long time.

It is WAY too early to grade the 2018 draft. Grading this draft should happen not until year three. People it took several years before Sloot and Diggins-Smith became the players they are today.

FWIW, Vandersloot was an All-Star as a rookie.

That's good. Was she a first team All WNBA player that year also? The current version of Sloot is ten times better than the rookie Sloot.

I think it’s too early to start criticizing the players yet, especially Canada and Mitchell who (like the above mentioned SDS and Sloot) play the hardest position in the league and will probably need 2 more years to break out. But it’s not too early to start recognizing that this infusion of talent is part of the reason why this is the healthiest, most successful and most competitive season in the leagues history.

Agreed. I think by now we’ve seen numerous instances of PGs and especially small combo guards needing time to develop. Kristi Toliver was once traded for a second-round pick. Briann January took awhile. Whalen had some ups and downs after her rookie year. Jasmine Thomas and Layshia Clarendon showed marked improvement after several seasons. Becky Hammon started playing true lead guard six years into her career.

PG is a tough position in a league predicated on passing and fundamentals to free up players. It takes time with rare exceptions like Sue Bird. Always has. Always will.
