I don't think that article means she gonna stay in the states. It just says the Schimmel family plans on touring, which they did during the WNBA season and Shoni didn't go to the events. Her parents are essentially motivational speakers who use her image to get people to show up.
So, I still think there's a possibility of her playing overseas. Doesn't the Brazilian season start in like November? She could still do the whole touring thing and spend time with friends/family for the next couple of months and then head to Brazil.

The only issue I would have is that Schimmel has a lot to work defensively, and she's probably not going to get that touring the country. Then again, a European team wouldn't be paying her for defense either ...
If Shoni can just become below average on defense, it will be great for women's basketball because that would probably be enough to keep her on the court 30 minutes a game. |

Yes, below average ... right now, she's simply horrid.

She mentioned in an interview that she was considering offers from Russia, Turkey, Israel and Brazil. She does have a tendency to leave announcements to the last second - she announced she was going to Louisville on her graduation day - which is why I say I wouldn't be surprised to see her go overseas. Either way, I don't think this will negatively affect her game.

Bria Hartley is a guest judge for the City Slam Dunk Contest on ESPN2 right now. They mentioned her career at UConn and that she now plays for the Washington Mystics.

I'm just guessing because she's a local (Phoenix) agent. Perhaps the only female agent out there?

Sounds plausible. I strongly suspect that this lady has never attended a WNBA game. |

i didn't watch the video, so i might have missed something, but i didn't find the quotes in the article all that egregious... just talking about known facts in pay disparity and the real, if uncomfortable for us fans, reasons why.

Russell's sister, Avery Worley-Talbert, had the same situation coming out of high school, but similarly worked herself into a scholarship and now plays professional basketball in the WNBA. |

Well IMO, its not so much exactly what she said. Most of it was just regurgitated rhetoric and buzzwords. She saying the WNBA players should be paid more because the men get paid more. Well yeah but... The NBA makes more money and can afford to pay more. Her solution: The WNBA needs to make more money. Yeah and? From the video, I got the impression she was speaking from a point of limited knowledge of the subject and wasn't comfortable doing it. |

Because of Them, We Can initially began as a 30-day photo project to celebrate black history and empower and excite young people about their history and their future. But following the success of the 30-day campaign, photographer Eunique Jones realized one month was simply not enough time to honor the trailblazers that have paved the way for so many. Jones extended the project into a yearlong endeavor, produced calendars and posters, created an equally adorable homage to overlooked figures in womens history, and eventually published a beautiful coffee table book.
This time, Because of Them, We Can is back but as Por Ellos, S Podemos, a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 to Oct. 15). We want to continue to provide imagery and messages to uplift children whose dreams and self-esteem are constantly attacked, Jones told BuzzFeed. Por Ellos, Si Podemos features 31 total portraits, both in Spanish and English, of artists, scientists, activists, athletes, and cultural figures that have shaped, and continue to shape, Latino history. |

Rebecca Lobo quoted at #7 on the list in the article... and they put the kid in what is obviously (to WNBA fans) a New York Liberty jersey. i'm thinking for financial and legal reasons they couldn't use an actual jersey. a critic would argue that it's a missed opportunity of some sort, but that's not really the point of the campaign. |

Elsa Hosk has said that pro basketball in Sweden is not as good as the WNBA but playing basketball professionally was tough as it involved eight practices a week plus games and lots of travel. |

How does Elsa Hosk know about the WNBA? Has she ever tried out for a WNBA team?

Not only would pursuing a four-year education be extremely beneficial to athletes, but it would also ensure success. In womens basketball, Baylor University graduate Brittney Griner, despite her skill, height and ability, opted to stay for four seasons to play with the Lady Bears, leading them to an NCAA title in her junior season against Notre Dame.
Griners ability has been transferred into her career in the WNBA, helping her to an All-Star nomination in each of her first two seasons. She also led her WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, to a league title in September. |
