No article with that? It appears the standings are unchanged at this point.

That's all the league released.

For what it's worth, Voepel got a tiny bit more out of them:

Quote:
WNBA e-mailed me statement from Lisa Borders: “We worked extensively with both the Aces and Mystics to come up with a workable solution. In the end, given the limited number of days remaining in the season and arena availability, we decided to delay the start of the game ...

...until 8 p.m. to give the Aces as much time as possible between arrival in Washington, D.C. and tipoff. While not ideal, it was the best available solution to accommodate both our fans and the scheduling challenges. Since the Aces chose not to play, the result is a forfeit.”

Don't agree with it, but at least they made a decision. Everyone can go on knowing the outcome.

Also the statement says nothing of further consequences either way.

EDD not only gets points for shots that don't go in, she gets wins for games that don't get played

Honestly thought there would be a fine handed to the Aces. Looks like no other punishment comes from this.

Eh. It looks to me like they're not telling us a damn thing. What's happening with costs/fines/whatever may just be behind the curtain for now.

I suppose Leonis and NBC Sports Washington could go after MGM civilly, but good luck keeping up on that even if you care.

Seems like there's more to this story than anyone knows. Borders seems to be in hiding now.

They really, really need to make sure they don't get lottery benefit from this.

Why not ? 1 game would not have changed anything for this teams current status. They lost enough games to still be in the lottery. NY fans just want their spot lol . Fun thought but not happening .

We'll see. It might be that this game doesn't make a difference. But if they end up tied with in another team in two-year record, or a game worse than another team, that means they get extra ping-pong balls (and some other team gets fewer) because LV chose not to play a game.

Where is the fairness in that?

My guess is the league wanted to clarify the impact on the standings, because that's going to affect how the season plays out, but hasn't decided on any additional penalties (if any). Fines, restitution, and lottery impact can wait until Borders talks to the other teams and the union and anyone else she wants to weigh in.

I thought the purpose of the lottery is so teams aren't guaranteed to get the top pick(s) by losing their way to the worst record(s). Let the PP machine decide if the Aces fairly deserved the #1 or #2 pick, or if they should get the #3 or #4 pick. Smile

Agree. I'm not sure there will be any further public comment on a money transfer from the Aces to the Mystics, but I suspect there will be one. It has never made any sense that there would be further penalty to the Aces organization. There is a chance that Las Vegas and Chicago would finish tied in the lottery (if LV beats Chicago by 4 games). Mr. Ed says, "a loss is a loss, of course, of course," and I believe that is perfect horse sense.

They’ve updated the standings now.
WAS 17-11, still in 4th place.
LVA 12-16, still in 9th place, 2 games ahead of CHI, 2 games behind DAL, with 6 games left.

The WNBA League Office statement regarding the Ace's forfeiture gives the impression the Aces and Mystics had agree to push the start of the game back to 8PM EDT then the Aces' reneged, if that's the case the Aces players should be looked upon as Quitters not Peaceful Protestors

The Aces consulted the union so they had to know this might be the result.
