Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I'm not a Huskies fan so I haven't been following. Let me advance the hypothesis that each of the 5 former UConn players on this USA squad is the best at her position, measured during her career at UConn, to have ever played for UConn.

Reactions?

Roger should check into Tolo's services, just in case this is an accurate list.
I don't think it's deadly accurate, because they don't have Cruz belonging to the Lynx

I think if they were to list every team which they hold the rights to certain international players, it would be a very long list. Technically there are 8 players missing from that list with whom teams hold their rights.

Australia: Tolo, George(Phoenix) & Cambage(Dallas).
France: Gruda(Los Angeles) & Ayayi(San Antonio).
Serbia: Jelena Milovanovic(Washington).
Spain: Alba Torrens(Connecticut) & Cruz.

Looks like they're listing only players currently under contract. Jarry and Dantas are still under rookie contracts. They don't seem to counting reserve players.

Voting for a 3rd party candidate only works if you truly don't care who wins between the two main party candidates.

Speaking from experience as someone who voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, I regretted that vote, even though I live in NY and the candidate I preferred still won the state. In 2000 Nader got a very small percent of the vote, but most of the votes he got were people who would have voted for Gore if they had to choose between Gore and Bush. I'm sure if you ask the people who voted for Nader in Florida, would they make the same vote in hindsight knowing that even a couple hundred more votes for Gore in Florida would have meant he would have won vs George W. Bush a vast majority would say they should have voted for Gore.

This is however way off topic in the team USA thread.

I voted for John Anderson in 1980 but that was a historical landslide. Not doing it again this year. Also, we will likely still have a split government. In a polarized world, that means gridlock. The main reason to vote these days is the appointment of Supreme Court justices.

But to bring this discussion back on topic, I say it's all Geno's fault! Wink

Bernie Sanders would have won the nomination if Geno didn't snub Parker from Team USA. Fire Geno! #uconnbias

So now that Birdy appears to be injured, do we suppose anyone regrets that we only took 4 guards? It does highlight the need to have a great combo guard like DT who can play point when needed.

That really sucks about Sue. Hope it's nothing serious.
Whalen could go down as well and the team would still cruise to gold though, let's be honest.

both McCoughtry, Moore & even Delle Donne can slide over to SG if needed. If Bird is out, we'll see Taurasi play a lot of PG.

This is where Team USA misses CP3's ability to play all 5 positions Razz

she's been the default back-up for Taurasi at SG this entire tournament despite seeing little playing time.

Seimone practiced with first unit today, Taurasi at the point.

I had that thought too! Where is Mary Murphy when you need her? Wink

Seimone has been less than stellar, but we know she is capable of having a big game on any particular night. Angel as a shooting guard is certainly possible.

She underwent an MRI on Aug. 17, which showed a knee capsule sprain. She is listed as day-to-day.

“Obviously I felt a huge relief,” said Bird. “The hardest part is waiting and not knowing. So, to finally get the thumbs-up from the doc that everything was okay was incredibly relieving and exciting, and obviously I’m very happy.”

Very Happy

Posnanski: The genesis of U.S. women's Olympic basketball domination

http://www.nbcolympics.com/news/posnanski-genesis-womens-olympic-basketball-domination

Quote:
“It took the American men 36 years to lose their first Olympic basketball game. It took the American women just one day.”

Quote:
So, yes, now, as you know, the U.S. women’s basketball team is probably the most dominant team in the world, any Olympic sport. When the U.S. beat France in the semifinal on Thursday, it was their 24th consecutive DOUBLE-DIGIT victory at the Olympics. The 19-point win was also one of their closest; over those 24 games the U.S. average margin of victory has been 36 points.

In all — including a couple of close ones more than a decade ago — the U.S. has won 48 Olympic games in a row.

Quote:
There have been many, many great women’s volleyball players in the U.S. — the sport thrives in colleges across the country — but still zero gold medals. Why has basketball been so different?

I’ll give you my theory: It’s the WNBA. The WNBA is almost 20 years old, and the U.S. has never lost an Olympic basketball game since it began.

Big Syl could play PG and USA would win by 20.

It's pretty boring.

I think it would be great to see USA play games that were actually in jeopardy once in a while.

TEAM USA is far from boring. Other teams just can't compete.

Rooting for Team USA is like rooting for IBM (or at least when IBM was a far more valuable company than it is now).
