| Gophers hanging in; leads 23 - 19 at the half. When was the last time LSU was held under 20 at the half.

| Can anyone watching tell the rest of us what is going on in the game? How is Minnesota doing it?

I turned it on late, but Bolden must have read our posts. Bolden, the stopper showed up today holding Augustus to six points at the half. This after letting Anderson of WI score 29.
The Gophers used quantity of posts againsts Fowles and got her in foul trouble.
The Gophers hit the boards hard and just played physical.

It really was all about Bolden stopping Augustus. That, coupled with Fowles on the bench with two fouls, helped Minny out a lot.
What they need to get back to is going inside at Fowles. They have talented posts, they need to let them go at Fowles to get her to make a mistake and foul someone. Putting her on the bench is their best way to taking back control.

| Borton using everybody today. Now she has Davis and Fox in at guard. Davis is in just for quickness on defense. Davis playing her best game as a Gopher today. |

Gophers played their best defensive game of the year but lost the game at the line. They gave up three offensive boards at the line, and missed what few FT's they had(3 - 12). Broback and Podominick just 6 - 23 shooting.
All that ugly and it still was a decent effort from the Gophers. They could be a force in March if they weed out the ugly. |

I agree with Vanyogan. Gophers lost the ability to play together for the last eight minutes-- everything tentative, miscues, self-doubts. The Gophs' second-half mental mistakes account for about 8 points of the 21-point margin of victory. Lousy free-throw shooting (mostly by Williams, always a lousy free-throw shooter-- there's a Ford in her future) accounts for perhaps 5 more.
That leaves 8 points worth of Gopher loss which you can simply credit to Sylvia Fowles: when she has her head on straight and avoids silly fouls, there's nobody in the country who can stop her, and (compared to to Courtney Paris, to any other strong center in the college game) it's easy to get her an entry pass: throw it so high that nobody else has a prayer, and she's going to elevate enough to fetch it, then put it through the net before the defense can do anything. Gophs committed some silly fouls, but some of them were just... what else can you do?
If Tasha Williams could shoot 50% from the line on the road-- ever-- I'd be talking her up. Good game in other respects. She seems to rise (or sink) to the level of the competition.
Broback gets rattled too easily, and she hasn't adjusted well to becoming the supposed center of the team's attack-- she looked a lot better last year, when she was the second or third option, especially when opponents doubled Janel (see also: Ann Strother). That said, she can make some difficult shots. Too bad she didn't make so many today.
Emmy Fox is well on her way to becoming my favorite Gopher. More minutes for Emily, please. (See: every other game she's played in so far.)
Nobody expected Minnesota to win this game: they stayed in it for 30 minutes, led for a while, and have now experienced a level of competition that's going to make Ohio State look like Indiana State. It's exactly the kind of experience the Gophers should have.

I agree with you on Fox, but also Davis, both gave me encouragement for next year. Fox doesn't turn the ball over. End of story, she should be playing big minutes by now.
The Gophers will be a better team next year. Figure Fox, Roysland, possibly Davis, Campbell, Ohm, Ellis-Milan will make a 5th addition to the posts they already have. The Gophers are a top ten team next year.
