Starts tomorrow if anyone is interested. Duke is noticeably absent this year.

Top Regional Teams and individuals
http://www.ncaa.com/news/golf-women/2011-05-05/division-i-regional-results
It's my understanding that they will live stream the last three holes, so apparently you can watch a team(s) finish and they will have live scoring also. I don't see any links yet though.
Individual Championship,
Besides the #1 players from some top teams like UCLA, USC, Bama,& Tenn,
A couple of players to look out for, AR #1, Emily Tubert, FR, 2010 US Public links Champion, shot shot 63 at Las Vegas tourney and blitzed the field.
The most interesting player I have come across in some time is Amy Anderson, SO, NDSU, 2009 USGA Junior Girls Champion, won NCAA 10 events already. Stroke avg a little over 73, not bad. She qualified as an individual, two from each Regional
4.0 GPA Acctg, plays piano and violin. was home schooled, Oxbow, ND.
You can only play 5 months a year in ND. But, it's windy, the courses are hard and fast, elevation changes, and there ain't a level lie in the whole state as far as I know. A good place to learn the game I guess.
Check some of the girls she beat, Kimberly Kim (final), LPGA rookie.
Post Champ. interview: A good read.
http://www.usgirlsjunior.org/2009/news/AndersonInterview.html
Stroke Play qualifying for match play:
Position Player Hometown Total Hole Today 1 2 Total
1 ANDERSON, Amy Oxbow, N.D. -3 F - New E 69 72 141
T2 LEE, Erynne Silverdale, Wash. -2 F - New* +3 67 75 142
T2 KORDA, Jessica Bradenton, Fla. -2 F - New +1 69 73 142
T2 BROWN, Sarah Lopatcong Twp, N.J. -2 F - New -2 72 70 142 5 GULUGIAN, Ani Irvine, Calif. -1 F - New -2 73 70 143
6 SHON, Kelly Port Washington, N.Y. E F - New* E 72 72 144
7 THOMPSON, Alexis Coral Springs, Fla. +1 F - New +4 69 76 145
8 HOWARD, Ginger Bradenton, Fla. +2 F - New +2 72 74 146
T9 TANCO, Victoria Argentina +3 F - New E 75 72 147
T9 MEADOW, Stephanie Northern Ireland +3 F - New* +2 73 74 147
These are all great players. She committed to NDSU, not even sure she signed a LOI, but after she won the USGA JR, she could have played anywhere she wanted. |

I will root for Anderson. In 2009, Purdue's Marta Hernandez became the only northern school athlete to win the championship, so I would love to see another cold weather school do well.
Boilers limped into the the finals after failing to win the conference tournament or the regional, but I have hopes. They won the thing last year (only cold weather team to ever do so), so they have the experience.

After I posted this, I went back and watched some video of Anderson, she won 3 tournaments this spring including the conference title w/o ever practicing outside at home in Fargo. They do have a have facility to practice inside though. It's called the bubble dome and it is owned by their coach. He is a golf professional with a lot of teaching experience. In his bio it says he has given over 5000 lessons.
I wouldn't pay much attention to that. The scores were way too low there, and a disadvantage for all but the FL academy players, it was a birdie fest. Purdue won last year, of course if you have an individual win, that's a huge advantage. But this thing is usually won with your bottom 3 players. Purdue is solid 3 -5. Unless you are UCLA or USC, all five players are going to have to ham and egg it. It's 72 holes, so few if anybody is going to play great every day, not at this level. If you post 4 good scores the last day you can pass a lot of teams.
Looking at your team schedule they have had a great year, worthy of a national champion. Don't count em out!
I like Arkansas as a dark horse. They are very strong at the #1 and 2 position. They have a good coach, one of the best instructors in the country in their Asst. coach. They probably have the best practice facility in the country thanks to a generous donor. They have two types of greens, bent and bermuda, a private practice area, there is no type of shot you can't practice. They can practice fairway bunker shots, long greenside bunker shots and pitch shots. They have a state of the art heated 5 bay training facility w/ state of the art video and swing and putting analysis.

If you can't get better at Arkansas you probably need to take up bowling. |

Just to clarify, we had the individual champ in 2009, and won the team in 2010. Hernandez wasn't on the team that won.
Interesting info, Van. I don't know much about golf, but I will pay attention to see how Purdue does and root for them. I appreciate you helping me with context, since I don't have much.

They are doing fine so far, +4, finished about 4 shots below their scoring average so that is good on this course and should keep then close to the leader. By the end of the day they will move up the board I'm sure.
UCLA is at -5 but Purdue was at -5 earlier about the same place on the course.
Here is the live scoring:

Four days, you just want to get started so it looks like a good start for them.
NDSU's Anderson played great for 17 holes, started slow with a couple of bogies, then fought back to -1 thru 17 (hole #9) then triple bogeyed the last hole to go 74/+2. But she will be fine with that. A good start with three days left. |

Hey Matty, check it out, like I said, you win with 5 players. The Boilers are right where they need to be. 3 shots back at the half way point, they can get 3 shots back in less than a full hole, less than 30 minutes.
http://www.ncaa.com/content/womens-di-team-leaderboard
Anderson made it all the way up to 6th before dropping a couple of shots. I have to say this kid is already my favorite golfer, the quality of her play given she only plays a real golf course 5 months a year, at home. It's amazing how well this kid plays, very, very, rare. She is still there, but to win the NCAA, she will now need two great rounds of golf, she will have to finish the deal. She's had two good rounds going in two days and let them get away at the end. She has used up her last pass. She has to finish if she wants to win. No matter what she does though, still my favorite golfer.
This kid is efficient, she can definitely dial it in, and quick, I admire that immensely. |

Well she did finish, got it to 3 under actually, gave 1 shot back but she finished. Well done kid!
Not much we can do about UCLA Matty, just watch I guess. Wish I could see this on TV. The Boilers are right there playing great golf, but so are the Bruins. |

On the team front, looks like a two horse race. Purdue and UCLA.
On the individual front, I still believe, well I know, Anderson is the best player in the field. Right now she is 5 back at T5. UCLA's #5 player is leading, she had a hole in one today. Let me repeat this, UCLA's #5 player is leading the golf tourney. That would be seriously good for UCLA. |

Looking at the leader board just now, the impressive thing is 4 of the top 7 players are individuals, their teams didn't make it. Anderson was an at large bid, she won 5 tourneys, including the conference title but she was still an at large bid.
Words can't describe how cool it is that UCLA #5 is leading. Her job is normally just to post a decent score. I guess!
Anderson is off to a slow start. It sorta sucks in that she, and the other individual qualifiers don't tee off last. So they have to go out and post a #, not knowing what the team players will do.
Ernst from LSU is a good bet, so is Shean from AR, this is a great kid, apparently she has a speech/hearing disdability, no matter, this kid has lead the US Open, so she is used to the attention. |

This is getting good Matty, I hope that video link works. Go Boilers!
ETA:
Actually, Virginia is playing great, only 5 shots back with about 9 to play. So, this is a 3 horse race now. |

Ernst, LSU shoots 66 for the second time this week. She is your champion folks, unless Shean goes unconcious. |

OFFS! Purdue signs an incorect card. Oh fuck.
UCLA wins. Congrats to the Bruins. When your #5 player is leading the golf tourney, that pretty much covers it.
The bottom line, the best player (this week) and the best team won. That's good.

Ucla Wins. Look at this way, their #5 golfer lead for three days. I would call that team.
Ernst shot 66, again. She deserves to win.
Arkansas Epilogue:
There is an old adage in golf, "you can't win on the first day, but you can lose" Arkansas literally lost this thing on the 1st hole. But, did they quit? No. Did they lay down and die? No. What they did is play the next 71 holes, as good as they can play.
If I were their coach, I'd be super, super, super proud of my players. |

Thank goodness UCLA still would have won if she hadn't made card mistake.
Congrats to my Boilers for coming in the Top 2 for the third straight year. Who would have thought that Purdue would might have become the top women's golf program in the country.
Not bad for a northern basketball school

They played great Matty, like I said, who would figure their #5 player, Lua, is going to play that well?, Sometimes, you just get beat. |

Trying to go back, I can't find the scores. But, AR gave up about 6 shots on the first hole. They had a couple of triple bogies. But then, they settled down, and played great golf. Finished T5. I'm pretty sure this is the best they have ever done. |
