Admittedly jittery, King played with a pair of LPGA Futures Tour players, one of whom was born the summer King won her first Women's Open.
"They announced on the tee that I was the Open champion in 1989 and 1990," King said. "I told the girls how long I had played in the Open (30 straight years), but I don't know if they knew about that ahead of time or not."

I'm just guessing but I doubt if a back to back US Open Champion has ever teed it up in a sectional qualifier. She did it completely incognito, it took the press some time to even find out about it. It was 36 holes in one day, 100 degree heat! Unfortunately, I'm betting a lot of the players there didn't recognise her and some probably did not know who she was. |
