"Liz Shimek cuts into the lane, gathers in a pass, takes two dribbles and smoothly rolls to the basket with a left-handed half hook for two points. During three other possessions in the same game, Shimek, a preseason national player of the year candidate as a senior at Michigan State, displays a variety of offensive moves - moves she didn't have early in her Spartan career - to score easy baskets. Four possessions, four different moves and four different formulas. And all were due to the teachings of second-year MSU assistant coach Al Brown."

Don't be counting out this MSU team. Bowen and Shimek are always on and Lucas-Perry and Haynes are key contributors from last year. And the bench can provide whatever the team needs against a particular foe. They will be tough down the stretch with that kind of leadership.

Wonder if Al is gonna land a head coaching job anywhere? I know he wants one, we loved him at Tennessee, but he left for greener pastures and hopefully a shot at a head coaching job.

Wish him well, he's a good coach.
