Let the Bubble teams beware, the Mocs are a strong at-large candidate even with this loss.

Southern Conference Upset

#8 East Tennessee State beats #1 UT-Chattanooga 55-50.

UT-Chattanooga has been a dominant team in their conference for a long time.
With the 1st round loss in the Southern Conference tourney. What does the
outlook look for UT-Chattanooga. Everyone pretty much had them between
#10-12 seed. Last year, They beat Rutgers in 1st round before losing to
Vanderbilt in 2nd.

Does losing in 1st round, eliminate them from NCAA Consdieration?
If they had made it to conference final and lost, would they still be
considered?
What is the outlook on UT-Chattnooga?

---CHATTANOOGA (24-3, 19-1, RPI 52, SOS 201, R/N 12-2, FEB 6-0, 0-2 vs T50)
No wins over RPI T100
Bad loss: @Georgia Southern
Remaining: Appalachian State or East Tennessee State in SoCon quarterfinals
Outlook: UTC had only two chances to do anything noteworthy, and got
slaughtered by Tennessee and lost by 13 at Auburn to open the season.

Great win for the Lady Bucs in their last year in the SoCon. They have one of the best players in the conference in Tiffani Mayes. They also have a great underclasswoman in B.J. Banjo. I haven't been the biggest fan of head coach Karen Kemp, but this is a great win for her and the team. I attribute much of their success to assistant coach Rodney English. He was a former standout on the men's team at ETSU.

Excellent to see my local team make some noise!

I don't see how. Maybe if they lost in the conference tournament finals, I would agree with you. But they lost at home in the first round to the #8 seed. And as has been posted here, they don't have any high quality wins to fall back on.

IMO, the Mocs are out.

B.J. Banjo...most definitely the coolest basketball name I've ever heard.

The only one that ever gets in the Tournament from the Southern Conference is the team that wins the conference championship...at least that's how it's gone in my experience.

yeah, i can't see the Mocs getting in. Not a single win over a top-100 team. A couple questionable losses. When you compare that to other bubble teams (Iowa, Auburn, Oklahoma, etc.), it doesn't look good.

OK, maybe strong is too much. They're a candidate, anyway.

Despite 27 points and 18 boards from Candace Gibson, the Lady Bucs of ETSU went down 73-71 to Ga. Southern. Still, after a disappointing season, they proved they can play with the best teams in the conference by beating UTC. Too bad they won't be in that conference next year (Look out ASun)! They will return Banjo, Gibson, and Brooke Wilhoit as the team leaders next year.
