It's the campus newspaper. Depending on which contributor wrote it, it may not be a Freudian slip.

At any rate, some of us familiar with State College believe it is an accurate depiction of Rene's policy the way it is writ. Wink

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. November 8, 2005 - Brittany Remmey (Doylestown, Pa.) has joined the Penn State women's basketball team, head coach Rene Portland announced today. Remmey, a 5-8 shooting guard made the squad following an open tryout held in October.

Remmey has competed on the women's club team at Penn State for each of the past two seasons, leading the squad to a No. 1 finish in the Northern Division last year.

Even after holding open try-outs, Rene has just ten players this season. The Big 10 conference should be interesting!

Penn State Denies Discrimination Allegation

Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland said Wednesday that a former player's departure from the school was purely basketball-related, firmly denying that any racial discrimination was involved.

Portland, who earlier rejected an accusation of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the same case, issued a statement saying that she "categorically and emphatically" denied the allegations.

"My career has been built on treating all Lady Lion players with respect," she said. "I will continue to do so."

"The dismissal of the former player raising these allegations was, and still is, a basketball decision and the result of my responsibility to do what is best for this team. Nothing else," Portland said in what officials characterized as the coach's "personal statement."
