Last night at Mizzou, my friends and I noticed that one of the officials had a thin black box on her back at her waist. She would touch it when the ball was being inbounded, as if to start the clock.

As I'm watching the Baylor-TX Tech game on tv now, I've noticed one of the refs seems to be doing the same.

What's the deal with the black box? Are they indeed controlling the clock? We don't have such technology in NCAA D3.
