Posted: 06/12/10 10:25 pm ::: Dates for 2010 playoffs? |

I'm trying to figure out the exact dates for the playoffs. I know that teams and times cannot be predicted yet. I found a link in Wikipedia that sounds pretty accurate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_WNBA_Playoffs) but ESPN2 has a playoff game scheduled for Aug 25th at 10 PM which contradicts that link. Anyone have any information?

Ugh, that could raise holy heck with my vacation plans. Thanks. Is there a place you found this?

I'm basing this on the wiki plus last year's schedule, but unless the WNBA has come right out and said it, I'm going with:
(Last day of season: Sun. Aug 22)
Conf semis: (Wed.) Aug 25/27/29 or (Thur.) 26/28/30
Conf finals: (Thur.) Sep 2/4/5 for both
Finals: (Fri) Sep 10/12/14/17/20
Note, these are my guesses. I do not know why the WNBA can't yet state at least the dates of the finals. I assume that it is so that they can have some leeway with site scheduling. I wanted to go to a football game or two so the dates are rather important to me.

I'll never doubt you again. I just saw the ESPN programming for September and here's what they have:
(Wed 8/25) 10:00 PM Conference Semifinal, Game 1 (Probably West)
(Thu 8/26) 9:00 PM Conference Semifinal, Game 1
(Sat 8/28 ) 1:00 PM Conference Semifinal, Game 2 (Probably East)
(Sat 8/28 ) 3:00 PM Conference Semifinal, Game 2 (Probably West)
(Sun 8/29) 8:00 PM Conference Semifinal, Game 3 (if necessary)
(Sun 9/5) 1:00 PM - Conference Finals Game 1 (ABC, probably East)
(Sun 9/12) 3:00 PM - Finals, Game #1 (ABC)
(Tue 9/14) 8:00 PM - Finals, Game #2
(Thu 9/16) 8:00 PM - Finals, Game #3
(Sun 9/19) 3:00 PM - Finals, Game #4 (if necessary)
(Tue 9/21) 8:00 PM - Finals, Game #5 (if necessary)
ESPN2 has US Open tennis, football, or racing scheduled at all other times (Sep 2-8 ) so I assume other games will get televised on NBA-TV. the only thing I don't understand is why the 5th is listed as "game 1." I'd assume it was game 2 if the series went from the 2nd - 8th.

Bumping this up now that it's been pretty much announced: http://www.wnba.com/news/postseason_dates_100729.html
Based on the TV schedule, this is what I expect. The only thing in question to me (besides exact matchups) is whether the 2-3 games in the first round would be before the 1-4 games.
(All times EDT)
(Could also be 1-4) (2) vs. (3) Wed/Fri/Sun
August 25 Game 1 (high) TV: 10PM (West)
August 27 Game 2 (low)
August 29 Game 3 (high) TV: 8PM
(Could also be 2-3) (1) vs. (4) Thu/Sat/Mon
August 26 Game 1 (high) TV: 9PM (West?)
August 28 Game 2 (low) TV: 1PM and 3PM (East, then West?)
August 30 Game 3 (high)
Conference Finals Thu/Sun/Wed
September 2 Game 1 (high)
September 5 Game 2 (low) 1:00pm ABC (East)
September 8 Game 3 (high)
WNBA Finals: West Champion vs. East Champion Sun/Tue/Thu/Sun/Tue
September 12 Game 1 (high) 3PM ABC (HD)
September 14 Game 2 (high) 8PM ESPN2 (HD)
September 16 Game 3 (low) 8PM ESPN2 (HD)
September 19 Game 4 (low) 3PM ESPN2 (HD)
September 21 Game 5 (high) 8PM ESPN2 (HD)

Is there any reason for your assumption that the games will take place in pairs, both in the first round and the Conference Finals? For example, just because the Conference Finals are taking place between the 2nd and 8th (inclusive), East and West don't both have to be 2/5/8. Could be 2/4/7 and 3/5/8 or something.

Very true. In this case I am basing it on last year's format which had them on the same day. But I think you may be correct.

I doubt it. He's assuming someone will televise them at all. ESPN2 is busy with US Open tennis coverage.

bumping up since it's getting closer. By the way, someone posted info on where to stay in NYC and how to get to the Garden. Would you mind reposting that? I'm starting to think about whether I can afford to follow the Storm if they make the Finals.
