Mid-majors dominate this list. Of the top 25 schools listed, only one (DePaul) is from a BCS conference.

That Depaul is the only BCS school on that list is yet another reason to admire Doug Bruno.

Interesting, but I would be careful with such a list. The academic requirements vary from school to school and we don't know where grade inflation is a big thing.

I am sorry but a 3.5 at Utah Valley State is not the same as a 3.5 at Harvard and a 3.5 in Ed is not remotely similar to a 3.5 in Pre med

But it is more than coincidental that the BCS schools are not at all well represented. I think there are about 70 BCS schools, and there are 330 or so D-1 schools -- so the law of averages would suggest that about five BCS schools should be on the list.

They're not, but then again, who is the NCAA trying to fool? It is not an organization concerned with the "student" half of the "student-athlete", nor in fact does it worry itself much at all about anything but the universities that support it, and the people who work for those universities.

It makes no difference if its a BCS school or not. The only academic school with any standing is Cornel the rest are all 3rd rate or lower
We all know the top rated academic schools such as the Ivy's Stanford etc The second rank would be the schools such as UC, U of Mich. One would also have to give high academic rankings to the smaller schools such as Carlton, Williams, Haverford etc

Not a big deal, just a meaningless award

That's fine and basically true, but it is also true that there are also a lot of similar academic institutions to the ones on this list that are not on the list. If you are comparing apples to apples, these schools do a much better job of educating their athletes than similar academic institutions do. And a lot of those similar institutions are the ones that put a lot more emphasis on athletics.
